cable clutch
cable clutch
have had a wee look at this conversion..
has anybody done it? and what alls needed, i assume using vara parts..
reason. it works and never needs bled..plus i like the direct feel a cable gives.

Rob, leave the bike alone
But if you can't, I think both lloydie and Tony.mon have had a go at the cable conversion

Re: cable clutch
Yes
I even had a go at a hybrid hydraulic section that finished with a fine rod with a nipple on the end which fitted into a Vara cable mechanism.
Still got it if you want to give it a try.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: cable clutch
il give it one more go to see if i can get this dam thing right.. just cant get nautral when you roll up to a stop. it feels like the clutch isnt lifting far enough...
2 masters
2 lines
2 rod
3 slaves
everything taken of the yellow bike.
still the same. was working great until i put new plates in. im even gona put the old plates in and see if that changes it back to the way it was...but right now the suns out and i wana go out and ride the tits of it

Re: cable clutch
Did you remember to put the tangs on the outermost friction plate in the clutch alloy spring plate?

Re: cable clutch
yeah the last two plates sit different for some strange reason?. gearbox is silky smooth but when u use the clutch its clunky. strange why it isnt lifting far enough...

Re: cable clutch
Worn pivot pin in the clutch lever?
Air bubble in the clutch line?
Check thickness of new friction plates. Haynes has the tolerance.
Shortened push rod?
If held under tension the hardened end can wear away, check length against a spare one.
Have you got a slave cylinder gasket stuck to the cylinder, and another one stuck to the casing?
Fitting two would move the slave cylinder out, which would have the effect if shortening the pushrod.
Same applies if you have the spacer section between the crankcase and the sprocket cover.
That's about all I can think of....

Re: cable clutch
thats pretty much everything covered...iv tried changing everything as iv two or three of every part in that list. even lifted the blue bikes setup onto the yellow bike and it works fine? but the yellow ones setup still doesnt help the blue one... that only leaves the new plates? il pull them when i take it of the road for winter and check they are the correct thicknesstony.mon wrote: ↑Sun Sep 17, 2017 7:38 pm Worn pivot pin in the clutch lever?

Re: cable clutch
Hi. Sorry for digging this back up.
What exactly is needed to convert the VTR to a cable operated clutch?
Can somebody list the parts needed?
Thanks.

Re: cable clutch
Hi thanks for the links.
But I don't know what Varadero parts are needed as those 2 links show a whole host of parts.
Can you tell me the exact parts needed please?
Thanks.
