Hi Poppers, Can you do a reminder 2 weeks before if you go to donington. I may be able to make that

missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!

......or you could push the button on your phone and ask it to remind you, save poppers having to wipe your butt for you! Lazy git!bigtwinthing wrote:Hi Poppers, Can you do a reminder 2 weeks before if you go to donington. I may be able to make that

Re: VFR750/Storm crossbreed race bike project.
I know this an old thread but what exactly did you do to the sprocket carrier to make it fit. I'm doing a similar thing but if I cant get it to fit I might have to try a CBR1000FL/M rear wheel.
Re: VFR750/Storm crossbreed race bike project.
It's machined down where the sprocket bolts, studs removed and replaced by bolts also machined in the centre. I can't remember the measurements though, 8mm rings a bell ?, there is also a stepped 3mm flanged spacer. front sprocket is RC30 in 520 pitch. you'll need to make measurements to be sure you get it right though. It wasn't difficult, just lots of measuring.

Re: VFR750/Storm crossbreed race bike project.
Excellent, thanks, and did the sprocket carrier bearing have to be recessed as well
Re: VFR750/Storm crossbreed race bike project.
No it's machined almost flush with the outer edge of the bearing so there is no dust seal, not really a problem as it's a sealed bearing anyway
The spacer that goes inside the sprocket carrier, the one from the inside I cut in half, then the outer spacer I had made to go half way into the sprocket carrier bearing, it's a tight fit so the spacer never falls out.

Re: VFR750/Storm crossbreed race bike project.
That's absolutely brilliant, it all makes sense now. Thank you for sharing this information
Re: VFR750/Storm crossbreed race bike project.
I've taken the bearing housing down 8mm, the outer part 10mm and the face that the sprocket bolts to 10mm, does that sound about right? Looking at the photos of the sprocket from the back 10mm looks about right.
Re: VFR750/Storm crossbreed race bike project.
Sounds close, maybe I went 8mm all round, not sure ? but 8mm sounds right for bearing housing, if there is extra off the sprocket carrier it's easy to space the sprocket for alignment

Re: VFR750/Storm crossbreed race bike project.
At the front end, were the Firestorm forks shorter than the VFR forks and if so did that make any difference.
Re: VFR750/Storm crossbreed race bike project.
Yes much shorter but it's easy to get around. the VFR has massive sag on the forks so when you set the storm forks up to say 27mm sag the difference is much less than it initially looked, my bike handles well and I run standard Firestorm handlebars with the forks flush at the top (I have 0.90kg Springs) if you want to raise the front then either Clipons below the yoke or the better option of risers for conventional bars.
