hi guys i was thinking of painting the bike wheels, the front is poor will need a bit of sanding and prep, i want both wheels off the bike , only heve one paddock stand ,will do front or back i have a trolley jack is there a way to use them to lift it, be off the ground for a few days, any tips would be wellcome, also has any one used dupli color metallic paint, cheers sammy

ABBA stand with front lift option works very well. Some folk create a form of gallows and lift the bike that way.

excuse my thickness whats abba stand, any idea what way the gallows is made

You can Google abba stand and find their site, or on you tube.
You could make a gallows type stand from two stepladders and a piece of timber, the use a tie down strap or rope.
That will allow you to suspend the front end to remove that wheel while you use your paddock stand for the rear.

Or have a look on eBay for a spare wheel- could be a dented one, doesn't even need a tyre on, to use while you switch the stand to the other end.

I often lift the rear by hanging from the rafters with ratchet straps... Only works if you have rafters in your garage...or if you even have a garage that is...

You could do something simular with the front, fairing off & pass the straps through the frame or under the headstock...

I have an ABBA stand with a front lift arm for front wheel out & fork work...

There are front padock stands out there but will will need a headstock lift type as the normal ones jack up under the forks which means you cant get the spindle out...

You could use a jack under the sump but its not very stable. You really would need to tie off the bike somehow in case it comes off the jack.

Another option is to use axle stands under the footpegs then use some weight to pull the back down thus raising the front...

Whatever you do... Take the fairings off just in case... & importantly loosen off any bolts that need to come out before you lift the bike.

I actually use a hoist designed for lifting disabled people, it works perfectly. If you happen to know a disabled person and can borrow their hoist it really makes it easy.
I use an Oxford Midi.

Great for lifting engines onto the workbench, too.

Yep Abba stand using engine bolts mod as mentioned in posts worked for me.
