Anybody have experience of working with titanium....?
Hi folks,as the title really.Need to make an exhaust hanger and would like to use titanium.
I've fondled some thin sheet and it is very springy, does anyone know if 2mm would be less so?

I've just been playing around with aluminium sheet hangers and they're springy too. But, if you double them up so the 2 sheets meet at the exhaust mounting point, but have a spacer between the 2 mounting points on the subframe they're solid. I guess you're creating a triangle between the 2 sheets.
I can do a crude drawing if my explanation is bad

I have a little experience. One thing I made was springs for a crossbow, they are pieces of sheet.
I havent a clue what alloy or eat treatment the sheet was as it was in the titanium scrap bin.
It made a great spring.
It took teeth of a new Eclipse all hard blade.

Yeah I think its going to be too unmanageable to work with as the thinner it is the springier and thicker gear is so tuff to work and kin' expensive.

I bend and form tube for a living and have worked with titanium occasionally. The softer, more malleable grades are quite straightforward - Grades 1 & 2. Some of the harder, more springy grades are 'kin 'orrible and really test my patience.
Of course, if you use a softer grade then the finished part will have less strength.... The harder grades will form but they don't like sharp/tight radii.

Kev, can you weld Titanium yet?
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I have a 6al4v oil filter housing machined all over, it turns nicely, but the tap stuck when threading it, no way is a tap going any further.
Tube us good for things like hangers.
Do you have some 7/8” stainless to make some T bars by any chance?

Can you recommend something to make an exhaust hanger from?Pentode wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 10:20 pm I bend and form tube for a living and have worked with titanium occasionally. Carbon fibre, you can get a kit and make a mould for pennies.TaxiDriver wrote: ↑Sun Apr 23, 2023 2:50 amPentode wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 10:20 pm I bend and form tube for a living and have worked with titanium occasionally. It's come down a lot since I made anything then, resin ~ 20 quid a kilo and fabric ~ 30 quid a metre.
You can get fabric much cheaper by contacting a mill that weaves it and buying parts of damaged rolls.
The worst bit is the time taken to make the mold.
I did make some sheet using a mini side window as the mold. I vacuumed the carbon fabric onto the window
and my brother made some parts for his 7/11 from flat bits of carbon glued together, worked well.
I made a lot of stuff like exhaust hangers from odd bit's of aluminium tube. It ends up nice and rigid, pretty light and doesn't
need painting.

Ebay's often a good source of bits n pieces like this, hope this helps.

Thanks for looking.
I had a look online and couldn’t seen any thicker wall than 16swg.
I really wanted around 12swg maybe 14swg.
