Anyone replaced their plug caps?

Post by Donut 77 »

Mine are reading far too high resistance. Looking at 5kohm replacements. I can’t make any sense of the NGK codes.

SB05 F or nor F? Are they for different plugs threads?

How do I know what mine need?

TIA
Good job I’m not in a rush…

Not sure if the part code might help you?

I was thinking about replacing the caps, leads and coils. But I've just bought some CBR600 2003 stick coils as an upgrade (there's a great write up on here by Lloydie).

I bought x4 stick coils, so have 2 spare to sell.

Here's that part number anyway:

So I was looking at these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284934955775 ... media=COPY

They seem to be 5kohm but it was whether the caps would fit on the vtr plugs?

I don’t think they would fit, and more importantly seal, inside the deep cylinder head recess on the storm.

I would suggest you follow up with Jamie, and do the conversion to plug top coils as that will upgrade your tired old plug caps and the equally tired coils

It is easy to do the conversion. Link here http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopi ... 5d9f1ccb7c

Sorry Donut, I hadn't forgotten about you. I've just fitted my stick coils, but I will not have a chance to test them for a few days.

Once I know I no longer need my 2 spares, you can have them for the postage cost.

As Al says, it definitely seems the way to go.

Ahh, no worries.. you're a legend. Thank you very much.

I'm a way off anything actually running anyway so no rush.

Thanks again

I think the photos are a bit old, so no longer work.

I've just done it myself, so that proves how straight forward it is

Can you solder wires?

Well that's the hardest part. You literally solder 2 wires together, hey presto!

I'll give you a shout as soon as I've tested mine Image

But don't forget to put the shrink wrap on before you solder the wires....
Don't ask.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Can't you just cut along the length of the shrink wrap and retro fit it? Image
