Popping and banging isn't isn't a good thing. It usually means either an exhaust leak or a overly lean setting on the pilot jets.

...or a failure in the air-cut valve system on the carbs which is there to prevent this.

They do it in hi level, it looks ace, but it also looks noisy as hell..
