Can you suggest anything else
Re: Can you suggest anything else
Thanks Chris for explaining the logic on the timing, makes sense. I'll update after the coils are fitted.
Re: Can you suggest anything else
You'll probably find it wont make any difference... If it were the coils I think it would cut out not just bog down.
The symptoms you describe are classic 180* out... Been there done that, re set timing sorted it.
Good luck tho happy tinkering...

And just when I was feeling all hopeful
thanks MacV2

Re: Can you suggest anything else
You were advised that was the issue last week.

Re: Can you suggest anything else
I know but one job takes 30 mins the other 4 hours

Re: Can you suggest anything else
I agree. Classic 180 out symptoms.
Are you happy tackling it yourself?
If not there are some of us well-practised in rectifying this fault, and someone local will probably guide you.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: Can you suggest anything else
Hi Tony I was going to tackle it myself but my local shop with a dyno have a spot open up tomorrow so I'll let them have the bike. Thanks again for the offer. I thought the Kettle Club were a good bunch, you guys are more of the same.
Re: Can you suggest anything else
One other thing that hasnt been mentioned and its happened to me, bike runs fine upto about 6k then bogs and splutters but wont pull through it, just like 180 out is,
the two boxes under the seat( the larger ignition box) have a look at the block connector going into it, the goo inside it that holds it all in place can break down and start to ooze out, causing thngs inside to touch each other causing just the problems so describe, tokk me a long time to find that out on my bike.
pull the connector out and see if its dry or a sticky kinda mess

Re: Can you suggest anything else
Thank you I will check
Re: Can you suggest anything else
Good luck at the motorcycle shop tomorrow

Chris.
Re: Can you suggest anything else
An update a little later than planned....the source of the problem was a small split in the front carburettor vacuum diaphragm. I had checked these but clearly not well enough. The mechanic blew (or sucked?) into the venturi tubes to test this without disassembly which is a handy tip. When I cleaned out the carbs there was a lot of silt gathered at the lowest point of the diaphragm housing and this had rotted the rubber. A quick glue and working perfectly.
Question is do I buy some of the £13 Chinese replacements on eBay for a winter fix or invest the £250 that Honda want for a pair of slides. Anyone ever tried fitting the Chinese ones?
While it was in it had APE MCCT fitted and the valve clearance checked and adjusted.
Definitely on my Christmas list is stock forks modified by either Roger or Maxton, I've no confidence in the front, I suspect the fork oil is original, but now is time for riding.
Thanks all for your time in helping me to resolve the issue.

5806wm, thanks for the update
Good news in getting to the bottom of the problem, it sounds like your garage mechanic knows his stuff
I know nothing about the Chinese replacements, although not too much to lose if they don't last,
Chris.
