Was out on the SP for a little blast a couple of days ago.
It doesn't go out very much as I like to keep it mint.
It's currently only got 14k miles on it and I've only put around 700 miles on it in 18 months.
Was cruising along as I usually do around 70-80mph and all of a sudden I felt it lose power and sound like it was only running one cylinder.
Also I looked behind and saw blue smoke coming out of the exhaust.
My heart sank as I thought this would be a major problem so I pulled over and the bike cut out as I ground to a halt.
I let it cool for a few minutes then checked the engine temperature, oil level and fuel level. All good.
No warning lights either so I started it up.
Again sounding really rough and blue smoke coming out again but I decided to blip the throttle a few times and it seemed to clear the issue.
I then rode gingerly up the road at 50mph constantly looking behind to see if there was any more smoke pissing out. (Luckily none)
I was about 15 miles from home and decided to gun it for home. Pulled over once more while the engine was running with no problems and no smoke.
Made it home.
Any idea what the issue could have been?
Last service was only 700 miles ago but it's been sat in my flat for the last 18 months with non regular use.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

It's telling you to get out more...

Making up since 2007, sometimes it's true...Honest...
Re: Strange issue with my SP

I do as I ride my ZZR1400 to work every day.

Plus the dry weather doesn't happen all that much in Northern Ireland.

Re: Strange issue with my SP
Injector stuck open?
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: Strange issue with my SP
Maybe. I'm no expert on engines unfortunately.
Probably best to send it to a decent mechanic for a once over.

Re: Strange issue with my SP
I had a similar problem with mine a few years ago.
Turned out to be the front cylinder spark plug.
With it being at the front, right in the place where all the bad crap and water can get to it, they tend to corrode and degrade.
Well worth replacing it before diving in to big expensive repair bills.
Remember, always start at the beginning when trying to diagnose a problem.

Thanks Kev.
I'll get it booked in for an Oil/Filter change and a new set of plugs.
