What would you do?

Post by parkergb6 »

Afternoon All.
The other day riding home the front fairing started to shake and wobble quite badly. As I was a short distance away I managed to get home.
Thought a loose mounting or something when I checked was proper pissed ..
The upper lug where the frame for the headlight etc had snapped off.
I can only assume this has come from when the bike was knocked on it's side a couple of years ago by a car driver.
Has anyone had a similar occurrence. I'm toying with the idea of seeing if anyone can weld it back on as it's the mounting point for the fairing etc.
Having looked for frames etc in eBay and the state of some of the upper mountings it appears a few people have done this.
Has anyone done this?

Technically, it would write the bike off, as a new frame would be needed. But I'd still simply have it welded back on, unless you fancy cashing in on your insurance.
You'd pay higher premiums for the next few years, though, plus your excess.

Or buy a replacement frame, they're cheap enough.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I suppose you could get it welded but you would need to find someone to do it properly. & they might want it stripped down so its a logistics issue of getting the bike minus its front end to them...

Failing that a replacement frame is the way to go but that means you'd need one with the log book & a plate to match.

Then there's the aggravation of getting the motor out, It might come out easily It might require a grinder! Although as the frame is scrap anyway cutting it out is a bit easier...

I can do you a frame with log book if you want to go down that route.

Or sell you a complete Storm & take your scrapper in part ex...

Tony thank you. Will likely see if a chap I know can weld it. I have my last storm a 1998 one still in bits and trays in the garage so have some options.
