old age??

Post by fabiostar »

old age or just a yappy ole man?

most you know what i own, dori, the LC and the street triple. now all looks fine in the garden, heres rob out on his bike yet again,

but heres the kicker and its been bugging me this last year more than ever :sad2 . in real life you could swing a cat further than i can ride this last while, on any of them. the trumpet kills my legs, the LC kills my pelvis area and dori just kills me, no like oh im a bit sore i mean like near cripples me with pains for a few days.

a big trip last week, all of 35 miles each way near had me taking monday of work ffs :confused pretty poor to say the least .

now the problems are . 1. the diabeties is causing this along with other bits breaking of  . im maxed out on drugs for it and have been for some time so problem 1 cant be fixed.

problem 2, what the hells the point in having a cave full of bikes i wana use but iv went over the tipping point of pain verses riding pleasure!!!!

problem 3... dori stays even if its only to use the odd time to go for a coffee ..

so i ask have i went of the top board thinking sell the LC and trumpet ,both of which i will regret dearly and give a maxi scooter a shot? something like a 650 burgman or the yamaha 550 things whatever they are called.

ramble over im just thinking out loud, but something has to change

by the way iv tried the adventure type and even a cruiser type. they just hurt different parts of me
the older i get,the faster i was

Like you I have a few bikes and I often think of 'thinning the herd' but nostalgia stops me, particularly the Storm & LC. If I wasn't able to ride them I would still probably sit (with a beer) and admire them in the garage. Logic would dictate flog them but the heart often wins over the head

I sold my road bike a good while back now for similar reasons Rob.I now have a KTM 250 and only go green laning where most of the riding is mainly standing,so no sore ar5e now and my legs are extra suspension.Great fun as well.

It's a tough situation, Robert, and one I wouldn't want to have to face.

Sounds like you need to try one of the maxi scooter options before selling anything, can you borrow or hire one for a week?
At least you'll then know whether you can still ride something, and make your choices after you have that information.

It's probably a situation that most of us will face at some time- either physically unable to ride, as you describe, or the eyesight goes and you end up putting yourself and others at risk.

Have you considered a trike?

i am gona look into trying a big scoot to see how it feels. no point buying one to find its no better.

trike wise i had a good run on a suzuki trike a while back. was pretty comfy but, just didnt tick the box, kinda like driving a car with no roof lol :eek2 :eek2 .

we will see how things go i suppose. it will be a cold day in hell when i have no bikes about me so i have ruled that out.

I’ve got an sp2 i cannot sling a leg over but get rid  NO F ING WAY! As perhaps one day i may be able to ride it (7 years down the line and I’m no closer.) at the minute it looks good in the garage so I’d miss it.
Before you do anything rash, think about whether you’d ever be able to replace it. It’s not taking any harm in the garage is it

If it needs a run out I can help.

Buy a bigger swing, or a longer cat.

I have to do all the thinking round here....

That sounds like good advice Tony.

Funnily enough my brother was at one of our local motorcycle dealers very recently. The sales guy there asked him what his criteria was for another motorcycle, when he had finished the sales guy recommended a Honda ADV350 8O 8O

Much food for thought lads.. as i said the big blue stays come what may.. if needs be it can sit in the bedroom for a while   .

just to answer the question for myself im gona try and get a good ride on a jumbo scoot to see what thats like, a scoot might solve the travel problem leaving me dori for special days out for coffee and the LC for much the same...

if im going down im going down in a ball of flames and sore legs

Try a few different bikes Rob. I was in a similar place. I scorned adventure bikes and the ones I tried crippled me. Tried some KTM Dukes of various sizes, nope. BMW boxers.... hmmm, not too bad but, FFS, it's a BMW. Someone suggested a Multistrada 950 and I thought, another stinking adventure bike. But, after a long ride I knew it was the one. An adventure bike maybe but it wasn't like the other adventure bikes I tried.

The point I'm making is that there's a load of different bikes out there and some may surprise you. Have you tried the smaller BMWs, get on a Pan European, try some weird stuff. Goldwing? An electric bike? If you can drive a car and ride a trike there will be a bike out there that will fit the bill.

i have a similar problem, hence trying to adapt the storm. i also have a silver wing scoot which is so easy all-day riding. however, it is a bit cumbersome in the handling department and i wish i'd got a yam T-max instead. more bike than scooter. the wing is more sedate. i'd suggest a t-max test ride first.

 i think the last 4 years or so iv had god knows how many different bikes but that still leaves a lot to try  .

driving wise id say after a 100 mile drive in the car i get out feeling much the same as half that distance on a bike .. im gona see if i can order a new body on ebay, problem solved
