Spain 21st sept to 5th Oct 25

Post by AMCQ46 »

failed to get it off the ground for 2024, but lets try again for 2025

I am putting the feelers out to see is there is any interest in another trip to the warmer climate and great roads that Spain has to offer.

The trip Tony and I did taking in some of the Pyrenees has got me wanting to go back to see more. The timing and duration of the trip would be similar, so 10 ish days end September/ beginning of October, using the ferry routes to get to either Santander or Bilbou

The ferry is the big cost but there was only 2 of us in a 4 berth cabin, so could be cheaper, then factor in a bit less than €50/night accommodation based on sharing a twin room, the petrol for 200 miles per day plus beer and food.

Location could be either more Pyrenees or Picos

the trick with the ferry is to book early and get 4 sharing a four berth cabin.
i maybe up for the trip depending on the circumstances

My plan for this years Spain trip is to copy the route that these guys called “Motorcycle Diaries” used in this great biking video.

I copied the freeze frame picture from the film of the route

And reverse engineered it to establish all the actual roads they used to make this GPS version

My vision is to cross into France on the train, ride down to the Biarritz area, do the route heading south through the Pyrenees, then go back up through Spain and catch the boat back from Santander.

Stopping each night in a different village

It will be 2 weeks of heaven

currently Tony.mon and Flatline are intersted. flatline is thinking he will do the train crossing into France and ride down to the Pyrenees (he doesn't like boats), but Tony and I will do the crossing to Bilbao or Santander...... so there are options for both if you want to join us

Ferry is unbooked!

I hadn't noticed the direct ferries website shows you a list of crossings, but they changed my requested sailing from Portsmouth to bloody Plymouth....
I'm waiting for them to call me back to amend it.
Luckily I paid the Flexi extra so I can amend it foc.

Ferries are approx £500 return, for a week and a bit of fun and games.

Anyone else interested?
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Ferry now booked for Alastair and I.

Portsmouth to Bilbao, 21st September. Arrive in Bilbao 23rd September at 08.00, after a looong day doing nothing (but beer might feature after the sun's over the yardarm).

Return from Bilbao on 4th October.

Now is the chance for anyone else to get involved…. It will be one of those road trips that you will remember for the rest of your biking life.

Either ferry with Tony and I or train and ride through France with Flatline.

You know you want to :D

Of course, anyone who might be interested could choose a shorter duration, just book ferry crossings to suit your pocket (or the limits of the significant other's tolerance).

You don't have to do the whole thing.

And there will be at least one rest day, probably two, to chill/sightsee/recover.

Confidence and mobility on the bike isn’t great yet after an accident a few years ago so there’s no way I’d tempt it this year, perhaps next year if i can ride farther than 100 miles.
I do like your layout above AMCQ46
