How much will Honda charge me for valve clearance check?

Post by meintjiesj »

Bike is standing at 18800 and I'm planning a fast one over to Switzerland. Need to get the valves clearances checked. What is the going rate these days and is it a big job as my local garage want to make out it to be. Full days work if nothing goes wrong according to them.

Planning on doing a 4 day trip to Interlakken and back. Anyone else been that way?

Can't see its a full days job - it might be for me but I wouldn't know what I was doing. Go to someone else - I think its quite straightforward but you just need a supply of shims if there is a discrepancy.

If they say "unless anything goes wrong", just how competent are they!

1/2 hrs maximum I'd have thought
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

1/2 hour for the rear cylinder maybe, but teh front is a right pig! It makes life a lot easier if teh carbs are removed, the rads and the front oil cooler. Not all nessecary but it will reduce the risk of dirt and debris going in the engine. It can be done with just the tank removed but it isn't easy!

Not wishing to disagree with you Paul (Stratman) but I think it will take a good few hours to do the valve clearences on the Storm, may not be quite a full day but certianly a very good part of it :!:

To be sure ring around abit and see what the general opinion on time is :!:
