There's normally a punch mark stamped into the side of your shock just by the side of the rebound (hard soft) screw. Turn the screw fully hard (or is it soft) and then rotate the screw head one full turn, which should align it back up with the punch mark.
The preload will depend on the year of the bike. The earlier ones were on either the second or third from fully soft.

manual settings

Post by Wogboy »

I have a NZ 2003 model and the manual for rear setting is......
"1. turn the damping adjuster clockwise until it will no longer turn (lightly seats). This is the full Hard setting.
2 The adjuster is set in the standard position when the adjuster is turned counter clockwise approx 1 full turn so that its punch mark aligns with punch mark (3)"

Punch mark "3" should be on the main housing under the S and H at either 6 or 9 o'clock.

The preload is set on 3 as standard (in NZ anyway)

I am 82 kg and have found for hard riding on Michelin Pilot Power CT2 tyres, i increase preload on the front to the 3rd ring and dont touch the damping. On the rear i have increased preload to 4 and hardened the damping by a quarter turn. I have had very pleasing results.
It could do with better front eibach springs... but a bit scint at the moment
