Post by sammo »

sorry, i feel like i have soo much to ask, but i have a couple of questions, 1) i keep hearing this knocking/clicking noise when i open and shut the throttle off, could this be a knackerd head stock bearing? and 2) i want to put some rear foot pegs back on my bike but my friend said that i will have to have some bracket made to mount them on?? is there anyway i can post a pic of my bike on here so that you could take a look and tell me what to do? sorry, im kinda new to this whole bike thing, so just trying to pick up the basic's. thanks again.

That knocking/clicking noise could really be anything, without actually hearing it in person. You can check the head bearings by raising the front off the ground and grabbing the front forks just above the axle level and trying to rock them backwards and forwards, any play in the head stock bearings or fork bushes should then show up. If nothing shows up after doing that, while the front wheel is off the ground try turning the handlebars from left to right and vice-versa, it should be a smooth operation from lock to lock :!:

To post a picture you will first need to host it, I use http://imageshack.us/ but there are others. You will then need to use the Img button at the top so you can paste your Image shack address (I paste the bottom link from Image Shack) in between as shown:-

The £ sign's won't be there when you do it :!:

Hi Sammo,

Looks like the original brackets have just been replaced by some sheet alloy or similar to support your Microns. :)

A standard set of brackets and foot pegs should fit straight on no worries.

I have Microns on my Storm with similar mount by the look of it so should fit OK.

I'm going over to my mates tomorrow to do a service on the car, my donor Storm is stored there. Not sure if it had rear brackets or not but I'll check in the box and let you know if you're interested.

As for the knocking - do you get it when you touch the front brake also?
If so sounds like headstock bearings may be loose or jiggered.

Try what Chris suggested. If bearings are loose then tighten them up and check for notching (clicking) as Chris described. If they're not smooth then should be replaced Also if there's any play as Chris said, replace them, (IMO) as the could have been damaged through use while loose.

HTH
