A Pothole killed my bike!

On the way home from a great wee blast up to braemar. with robbie and dave phil and mark, robbies m8s. I clobber a pothole on a lefthander just after a blind crest about 20 miles outside of braemar heading south. Well the Bitch threw me off into the path of an oncomming german couple in a hired peugeot, Danke mine Herr for watching the road and not the view, the bike flipped. and their car stopped it for me, they were unhurt and so am I.after my bounce n slide across the carriageway .got a nasty swollen elbow and knee but other than that i walked away..I'm a bit drowsy due to the meds so ill stick up a couple o pics and STFU..stay safe peeps and thanks to the Lads,for sticking around sorry to mark cos you missed the spectacle, hope you got home ok after your puncture.. looks like i'll be buying a Mille sooner than i thought...

I can think of less painfull ways to get a Millie, glad you are ok.
That looks like a fast left hander.

Was out for a blast last night, mid way through I came across a cracking roe buck right in the middle of the road at Spinningdale. Much gear changing and braking and he just hopped out of the way nice as you like.

bad news,
step 1 I presume you have witness statements?
step 2 talk to your solicitor.
step 3 get hold of the local council and road care people and sue the aÂ£Â£ off them.

If there are any houses nearby, ask if any complaints have been made to the council.
I recently reported a pot hole on the inside of a roundabout that grew from 6 inch square by a dent deep to 3 foot by 2 foot and 4 inches deep. I reported to the local council highways and it was repaired inside a week, as I said I use it everyday and would cause an accident as I have to move out to avoid into the next lane. I was given a reference/report number.

plenty of pics, and signed statements from your mates should help, but the German couple would be great.

make sure you have the evidence because if the old bill was informed, they might tip off the council to fill it and hide the evidence.

Bad do Marty, but as the guys have said at least you're not to badly injured.

So soon after your outing to Knockhill too - Cracking photies mate BTW.

Bet the Krauts thought it was a 'bouncing bomb' coming towards them!!
May not have 'bust a dam' but certainly looks to have put a hole in the Peugeot's water supply!! (Sorry, couldn't resist it)

Anyway back to the real world....

I'm no expert but that poor Kwakker looks fairly well fuucked - the big dint in the frame's a dead giveaway!

Good avice from Chaz too - get photies and lots of 'em even if you have to go back. Take a ruler or similar with clear markings on as well so you can photo the length, breadth and depth of the pot hole. Use 'macro' on digital camera then it shouldn't be blurred on close up of ruler.

Take some aerial views of the scene (if they help your case - if not don't) using Google Earth and a little program called ZapGrab or similar.
(Zapgrab allows you to select any area of your screen and save it as a picture file - If you want it I'll mail it to you - just PM me).

Had a quick look on GE for Braemar area - might not be of much use - with it being so rural around there, they don't tend to take quite as detailed view. Shame that - lets GE down IMO - Also get clouds on some areas, like Southend by Campbeltown at bottom of Kintyre - bloody annoying! (This is an edit BTW)

Even if it comes to nought at least you'll have tried - get your insurance company on the case.

Hope your soreness fades fast.

Not so sure about the Mille though - can be bloody unreliabe.

What you want's a nice Storm/SP1/SP2

None o' that Italian stuff thats working 1 week being fixed the next - Gracious you'll be getting a Ducati next!

Sorry to hear of your latest off Marty, glad you walked away but it doesn't detract from the pain of a fooked bike

One question that hasn't been asked -what the fook were you doing that close to the road edge on a left hander?
Especially (by the look of it) so early on in the corner?

anyway, hope you get well soon and back on two wheels somehow

Ben m8 the left hander was part of an uphill type chicane. i was left of the centreline to avoid the tourist buses caravans mobile homes etc that always pull their rear ends over the line on corners,after cresting the rise there was a quick flick left and the front clipped the pothole while the rear slammed into it. upsetting the bike at lean which threw me off. just pure bad luck this time m8. me and the guys took loads of pics and there were plenty of witnesess.
so i dont envisage any problems with the insurance co.thankfully i went for fully comp this time. at the moment i feel like iv'e been in a motorcycle accident.

and i'm trying to cheer myself up by looking for a suitable replacement,and it WILL be another twin..thanks for all your good wishes you guys,stay safe....Regards..Marty..

Marty, dont forget the council, its their duty to keep the roads in good condition, lay it on, why pay when it can be their fault, if its a common thing busses and the like clipping the centre lines then maybe the council should do something, if the pot hole and area around looks well used then chances are its a problem.
get a few more pics from either side and at least they may have to look at widening the road.

the pothole in question was on a piece of tarmac added to widen the road,as it was..rest assured guys, the council will be getting it tight from my legal guys. after all iv'e got 4 yrs no claims to protect...

hmmm. if its been added, then they are aware there WAS a problem.
my arguement would be ...it should have been made a permanent part of the highway not a repair...
