front pads

Post by sammo »

i could hear this clicking noise when riding and it went when i put the front brake on.. looked at the pads and they are in good shape, but one of the pads is loose and falls forward slightly then touches the disk, is there a clip or anything that could have fallen out? one of my friends thinks its got "floating" pads and that a piston could be sticking and not taking all the travel out of the pad, to me that would seem that the pads would be touching all the time it it had to be pressed against the pad to stop it moving. any ideas peeps?

Hi Sammo
There should be a spring clip which holds the pads in place. It sits between the top of the brake pad and the locking rod which stops the pads from flying out. It can be easily seen from the top of the caliper.
It sounds like yours might be missing.
Sometimes you can get a click from the pads if you have the brake on and rock the bike backwards and forwards, that's normal but you shouldn't be able to hear a clicking when riding along and not using the brakes.
