the kill joys have ruined another road!!!!!
well the locals with all the money who want there house prices to go up have won again, the yorkshire tt as it was called on northeast tonight is having double white lines put along most of the 16 miles of it so anyone caught over taking or speeding is gona get a new a*** hole reamed out by the courts so plz be careful not to get caught by the bike hating nazi's oopppss should i say north yorkshire police
thats was one the best roads in the northeast i didnt speed along it but a few have ruined it for the rest now we all pay
double white lines wont spoil my fun..u dont have to be going fast or riding like a loon to have fun..most roads that are frequented by bikers are been made double whites...devils bridge has seen the same, willingham woods too...alot of wales is now dw's..hasnt ruined my riding, plus any decent car driver will move over enough to allow u to overtake, whilst not going over the white lines...so long as u dont ride 2" from there bumper..

Good point Lee - remember the Highway Code says that a solid white line on your side of the road means that you must not cross it - it does NOT mean no overtaking (see http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTr ... /DG_070306)
If you can overtake without crossing the solid white line then that's perfectly legal (and something that most car drivers don't know).
Black VTR + loud pipes = big grin + many car alarms set off
But be careful when you do it coz if any partof you or the bike crosses the plane it is an offence
Yes thats right, the filth can AND WILL do you coz you mirror was over the line
I've got an inferiority complex But its not a very good one!
Even though there is allowance for overtaking on double white lines they ONLY apply to things like stationary vehicles or slow moving hazzards (cyclists, horses etc)
Overtaking a car that's pulled over to let you through will still get you pulled and might even get you a careless driving.
TBH though 99% DWL are there for a reason. That Helmsley road had how many fatalaties on it this year? I dont know off the top of my head, but I know its quite a few. (three fatal bike crashes at least that I know of this year)
I know they don't account for the overtaking power and short gaps a bike can utilise, but they are always on dangerous bits of road and shouldn't always be viewed as a killjoy measure. That said, some roads do get blanket white lines that should be thought out better to allow dotted sections where appropriate.
Personally, although I may have done it, I try and avoid overtaking on DWL as if anything should happen (horse crap on the road, unexpected lunatic coming the other way etc) you're royally screwed as far as insurance and being prosecuted goes. It's not worth the 5 minutes of my time tops I'd save on my journey by blatting past them.
I'd rather see sensible measures liek proper accident investigation, removal of roadside furniture and better surfacing, but its cheaper to buy a job lot of white paint or some new numbered signs instead of those black and white stripey ones.
So I can see why they do it, and I don't agree with it entirely, but I don't think they're an evil tool of "the man" either.
Voted most likely to be found dead in park bushes following an act of autoerotic asphyxiation.
I agree with Cap'n Shapeless and Kitch - it's there in B&W on the link Cap'n provided.
That's not to say I haven't been guilty of crossing the odd DWL myself - but 'only' when I can see it's clear to do so and I know I have enough acceleration / distance to get passed whatever I'm passing safely before my 'vision' / window of opportunity vanishes.
I know to the letter of the law or the Highway Code this may be an offence, but how many of us see blatant disregard for, or ignorance of the Highway Code every time we're out on our bikes, at least 90% of the time by people in cars!
I wish I had a quid for the number of times (since the law changed) that I've seen some idiot driving down the road talking on their mobile phones! Women / Men / Rich / Poor, even bloody truckers for Cliff's sake!
There's absolutely no excuse for it - BT headsets are cheap as chips now so Hands Free kits being expensive is no defence, especially tossers who've obvioulsy got very healthy bank balances judging by the cars they're driving!
What's worse, doing it pulling out of junctions or going round roundabouts!
1/2 of the pillocks (with or without mobile phones stuck to their ears) must think that the rules change for mini roundabouts as you often see them wondering who got there first? who gives way to who? that coupled with a lack of focus due to their mobiles phones, we don't stand a chance!
I could cite loads of examples, but then couldn't we all?
IMHO - Anyone wanting to drive a car should be 'made' by law to spend at least 6 months if not a year, riding a motorcyle of some kind, even a twist'n'go scooter, before they're allowed behind the wheel of a car.
I truely believe that we'd be a lot safer had 'they' experienced the vulnerability we bikers feel when we're faced with their inadequacies!
For the idiots who would more than likely become idiots in cars - like as not many of them wouldn't survive to get behind the wheel of a car and therefore make the roads a lot safer place to be.
Cooooooo haven't vented my spleen like that for a while!
