Warning - Micro Bill Systems

A while ago Tony posted a link to a porn site. Being a bloke I of course had a look. A few days later I started getting pop-ups (stop sniggering at the back) on my PC, demanding I send MBS Â£40. These pop-ups are locked for several minutes, though apparently they will eventually disable your PC. Google "microbillsys" to see the full extent of this problem.

Apparently these w*nkers have been investigated by the BBC, Guardian, Trading Standards and so on, but this being the Land of Free Enterprise where a small numberplate is a heinous crime but demanding money with menaces isn't, nothing has been done, so it is down to the individual to sort it. WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T PAY THEM!

The only way to get rid of it is to remove the Mal-ware from your PC - not as easy as you may think. As usual, t'Internet generates more heat than light, so I have kept a copy of the removal instructions for anyone else plagued by this. No way am I a techie, so if I can do it so can you. Incidentally, going through my registry to delete MBS I came across a sh*tload of other Trojans. Any of these could be sending your personal details to some delightful porn-site operator. So even if you're not plagued by MBS it may well be worth checking it out with some Spy-checking software.

to others who have spyware..google "Trendmicro"...they have a free online malware and viri scanner which is very good!

AVG is a good free bit of anti virus, along with Adaware and spybot, they are all free.
i use all three on my pc and don't really get any problems by running each of them about once a fortnight.

Microsoft Defender is a free download from Microsoft that will deal with those Activex trojans.

download the google pack,that includes spyware doctor,that removes the things that adaware misses

Hi, I'd cleared the problem, but just for the hell of it had another go with some of the above applications. So, on re-boot my PC was frozen.

I've just got back on at an earlier save point via Safe Mode. A little knowledge, etc.

Note: Ad Aware will NOT spot a lot of these Trojans (that's why they're called Trojans I guess) Don't know which of the applications affected my PC, so steering a safe course from now on.

Upshot of all this - let's be careful out there.

Most of these trojans get in when you are invited to click on a missing ActiveX component to"allow you to view" this downloads the Trojan. Also beware of visiting other users websites that are listed in memberlists unless you know the member some of these will start downloading trojans as soon as you open the site . The only way to stop it is to power down your computer immediately by pulling the mains plug! I am a moderator at http://www.fender-forum.com and we had a lot of these problems over there.

if your moderatly good with your pc always follow the manual instructions to remove a virus or viri as programs such as AdAware rarely remove all the registry entries.

Oftern if they do get them they will be recreated in a different sub directory! Hence why i recommend trend micro as it will find the little git and tell you how to remove it!
