Been AWOL for a while ain't I?
Nice to know I've been missed
Not intentionally, but just had a break from things, computer generally, hence lack of posts
Bit disillusioned too I suppose.
As you know a mate of mine died a week after being knocked off his bike in late November. That's still on going (case etc).
The Friday (7th Dec) before his funeral - some (non-reflective) knob forced me off the road causing me to lay the Dominator down!
I was going straight forward at a set of lights (just turned green & lead car turning left), he was turning right across me - pulled too far forward & right closing my carriageway down.
I grabbed a handful, had a wee skid and manged to recover it without hitting him, only to find I was heading straight for the traffic light pole and lamp post on the opposite corner!
Methinks 'That's going to hurt' so I laid the bike down, it hit light pole and scraped across the pavement on r/h side, I thankfully missed the pole but stayed with the bike.
Apart from lots of cosmetic damage to the bike (which was absolutely mint up to that point), to me bike pants, jacket, gloves and boots, the thing that really pissed me off was that my limited edition Rossi Rep AGV GP Pro 'Icon' helmet got scraped too!
The guy stopped long enoughy for me to get his reg - but then drove off! Even though I'd limped across to side of road and gestured for him to 'come here' so we could exchange details!
He left me no choice but to ring the police - when they tracked him down he said he saw me come skidding towards him and thought someone else must have caused the accident!
The poilce said technically he'd still committed an offence for leaving the scene of an accident but that it was 'not in the public interest to prosecute'! What about my interest????
They never even saw him, they went to registered address for the car - it was his mum's car (named driver) he was in Leeds so they spoke to him on his mobile! - was he in a rush to get there?
I have 3 witnesses but I'm not sure how good they'll be.
So that's all going through - looks like they're going to right off the Domi just on cost of parts for the cosmetics = no structural damage! However I've not had an offer yet.
On the upside - I've been given an '07 Fazer 600 to play on while it's sorted out (loaner through insurance). Could've had SV650, ER600 GSXR600 or this - would've loved the gixxer but roads much too slippy - I'b be spinning up on every roundabout!
The Fazers a nice bike - bit short in the leg for me but I'm getting used to it - plenty of power an well capable of breaking speed limits - not that I have!
Ride it like a 2-stroke and ring it's neck and wayhey!!! loads of fun! I'm just using it to commute mainly though. 'Note to self' take notice of where power kicks in. It does have a power band!
The only down side to it really (apart from lack of torque etc against Storm) is that it's unfaired - OK up to 70, but I reckon
after that you're hanging on! hands and knees get cold quick too!
Then it's been Crimbo - like it or not.
Anyway - I'm back
And a suitably long winded post to start off the New year too! (Some things just don't change)
Right I'm off to read the post about the Britten!

Things have definitely have not been going your way lately that's for sure
Not good about your Dommie incident, but glad you didn't fair any worse than you did. Still bl%dy annoying though especially when it's caused by someone else
Fingers crossed that your ins company come up with a reasonable result

Could have been a lot worse I suppose, thankfully I was slipping between the 2 queues approaching lights, so was prolly doing about 10-15MPH. As I pulled alongside lead car, saw he was going left as lights changed so increased speed slightly - I reckon I may have been approaching 20-25 when I saw the car blcoking my lane & grabbed a handful.
Don't suppose I'll ever find out, but it does make me wonder if he was intendingtrying to beat the left hand turning guy off the lights and thought better of it,
Bridge of me right foot felt like I'd had a good kick back from a big old single with loadsa compression, for about 4 weeks - not too bad now.
Hosi thought I might've broke me left scathoid? (bone between bottom of your thumb and you wrist), so they put a half cast on it over the weekend. Fracture specialist reckoned just tendon damage and gave me a thumb splint. Still awkward / painful doing some stuff with it - good job I'm right handed, eg press studs on helmet strap, jacket etc. Joint/knuckle still hurts like hell! if it had been broken, it would've mended by now dammit.
Ins co reckon we've got a good case, regardless, if there's any mention of 'knock for knock' they can shove it - I'll take it to court. Thankfully we're not both insured by same company so less likely to try the 50/50 on me.
I know the junction very well, lived very close to it for 18 years. I've been back and stood between the two rows of traffic waiting to go, looked and photographed the junction, lane markings etc - there's no way he was within the 'right turning' lane else I'd have got by and gone home no probs.
Oh and the Fazer comes alive at around 7,500!! Whoppeeee!

Good man Graeme, positive thinking is the way to go, as you say things could have been a lot worse.
I know what a good kick back from a big old single with loads of compression feels like, although I never had that feeling last for four weeks

Not such good news about your lefthand though. I have heard that before that a break is quicker to mend. I guess it could have been worse if it had been your righthand, considering you're righthanded (think positive think positive ).
Ins wise, at least the other party was insured and you luckily got his number, it could have been a different story otherwise. Hopefully your witnesses will come through and you'll get a reasonable deal.
