Booking a flight (Top tips)

Post by Beamish »

I have a timeshare in Santa Eulalia (Ibiza) and every year I have to book flights for my family, I have always flown from wherever the best prices are available. I always use t'internet but this year more than any other I was well and truly caught out.
Whilst searching just out of interest, intending to book in feb for a May departure I found that Sleasy jet would fly me , wife and two children (under twelve) for £260 (before extras) as opposed to around the £600 mark form elsewhere. Thought to myself that seems good will book it after payday, anyway...........
I kept an eye on the live price as they do fluctuate according to demand and bl**dy hell 3 days later I had to book at £369 the price is now £439 and rising! Just a word of warning to anyone on the look out for flights, if you see a bargain book the bloody thing there and then, dont even wait till the missus comes home for a second opinion.

Just thought I would share my experiences. I fly alot with my job but I have never experienced price fluctuations of this scale before.

Had the same thing happen in 06 when we went to Barcalona to watch the GP.

Its crazy how the price can swing like that in the space of a few days!

Like you say though, its down to supply and demand suppose :?

I'm pretty sure that the price is driven automatically by the number of enquiries (ie web searches) that the page receives. With only a few hundred tickets available it only takes a few hits on that page for the price to escalate.

As you say, if you see it, book it.

Just off to Tennerife for 2 weeks. Booked Monarch thro Sky Bargains £345 two adults return. I find that they add on things to the price you are quoted when you first enquire.
Hoping I don't have any surprise payment at check-in.
