god this thread is old chris lol!

I got an £80 fine and no points, a total result i thought! However theres now no chance of me having decent end cans as if i get caught a third time im pretty sure they'll throw the book at me!

The funniest bit was when the pig, sorry i mean police officer was explaining to me how exhausts only send sound backwards because that is the direction they are pointing.

At which point i turned around so he could only see the back of my head and replied:

"if thats true you wont be able to hear me now then will you"

He didnt see the funny side! That said it REALLY annoys me when some idiot whos done a 3 day course tries to tell me how the laws of physics are not applicable to motorcycles!

that there copper needs to explain why I can hear bikes miles away every TT. You can finish your cuppa, unpack your camera and get nice and comfy for a shot of john mcguinness at supersonic speeds. And his pipes are pointing away from you the whole time!

Assholes - from the safety advisers to the politicians to the coppers.

at least your license is clean eh!

Well that's cleared that up Toby (Squiffythewombat) :!: As you say at least you got away with no points on your licence :D

Chris.

PS. So does that mean if you place your can's facing the sky it will only be aeroplane passengers that will hear them :?:

yeah totally, was a good result, im just a bit miffed i cant put more cans on...although i did hear this rumour that you cant actually recieve points for cans! Quite how true that is, and weather it would apply to me after being nicked twice already i have no idea!

As for upwards pointing cans....no idea but they'd make great mortars!

I'm not absolutely sure (don't quote me). But exhausts are an mot issue and you can only receive a producer and you have to fit legal pipes and get an mot qualified garage to certify that the work has been done. It's kind of like losing a number plate or having a light out.

I think!!!!?

Vaguely interesting reading
http://www.dorset.police.uk/pdf/P03-200 ... ctV1_1.pdf

Section 4.4.8 list 'no silencer' or 'failure to maintain silencer' as non-endorsable offences
An exhaust with 'not for road use' would classify as 'no silencer' and is therefore NON-ENDORSABLE

Section 4.1.3 A VDRS should be issued unless 'the circumstances are so serious, potentially dangerous or in such flagrant disregard or previous WARNINGS as to merit issuing a fixed penalty notice'

There's also a couple of useful 'download and print out for future reference' links on this site
http://www.bmf.co.uk/pages/bmf_main_pag ... age_id=156

I can find nothing relating to repeat offences in this instance -the only ones I've come across relate to number plates where the DVLA have the power to cancel the regstration and issue you with a Q plate :?

Squiffy, If you are missing the noise I can strongly recomend getting a set of Remus road legals as mine are lovely sounding (every year the MoT bloke says 'I cant pass it with race cans on' and every year I take him outside and point out the E mark on the cans  )
I've got an inferiority complex
But its not a very good one!

wow ben, thanks for the wealth of info there!

The bit that gets me is the flaunting the law bit as i was given a producer and forced to get an MOT station to change the pipes which i did and then promptly put the old pipes back on again, at which point i got stopped a second time....

...thus being stopped a third time might be seen as taking the royal piss...which in some respects is true, in others is a load of bull!

Personally i truely believe that loud pipes save lives, several times the ART cans made cars move before an "iffy" situation arose!

As for the road legal cans, i would dearly love some but sadly my budget doesnt stretch that far! DB killers sound like a good idea but a bit pointless!
