nip in post today..bugger

got a nip today..68 in a 60..point is it happened two months ago,was just wandering as ive heard some where theres a time limit on these things..any one got any idea if its true or any other info on procedures...cheers

Could be wrong Karl, but the last I heard it was 2 weeks from the date of offence?

There are other more legally informed than myself but I thought 6 weeks was the cut off, saying that....... in 1991 (last time I was done) due to an error by the arresting officer it was over three months before the court hearing. Really annoyed me as the dibbly that took my address did so incorrectly, even though he had my licence in his mitts. All the correspondance went to another household, next thing I know I am pulled up and arrested. Anyhoo I got Â£270 and 3 points.
Sorry for rabbiting on I think 6 weeks is the norm but there are complicated rules surrounding this area of law.

My understanding is that that the police are supposed to serve the notice within 14 days of the offence plus 2-3 days for postage.

The only time where they are allowed more time is if the vehicle was not registered in your name, i.e. hire car, company car where it takes them longer than the 14 day period to establish who the notice should be sent to.

If you're stopped by the cops - they have 6 months

Will it be expensive to fight the charge? My experience is that without available funds to fight the ba**s it gets bloomin pricey (solicitors letters etc.... Good luck mate and keep us informed.

A NIP must be sent within 14 days of the offence. See a solicitor. The only exception is if the first one failed to find you as the vehicle was leased or you moved house and it was not possible to deliver it. But the first attempt to notify must be within 14 days.
