Trade-in and Triple

Post by bob the builder »

A few posts ago i had these thoughts that i must have a 748, you kind peoples told me to go and give it a bash.

Change of mind since, too much possible expense and worry( I have owned several Alfa's therefore know the pain and joy of Italian machines)

Anyhow's, in me local bike shop at weekend and spotted Triumph Speed Triple in black, having owned 2 triple engined machines i thought mmmm.........maybe this will slow me down.

Nipped up today for a shot of said machine........Bloody Nora!! nearly pulled me arms oot their sockets.

Chinwag with chap, £3999 for Triple usual dealer stuff, warranty tax etc. Trade in value of the Storm, minus Yoshimura Cans, £1700, whadyareckon for not only trade in price but a Triple as a bike?

Yellow storm 2001 y plate 22 000 miles good all round nick.

Mate If you are ready for a change that sounds like a good enough deal, the Speed Triple in Black is a v good looking bike IMHO. What year and mileage is the Triumph and what is Parkers guide pricing it as?

I had one of the first T509's for about four years, absolutly loved it, one of the best bikes I have owned. It did everything very well.

Buy it Bob!!

I think the ST is a bike that appeals to some but not others, a bit like the Storm I guess. But after saying that I do like the look of them :D

I doubt it'll slow you down much as you mentioned, although without a fairing may help.

It all depends on what you want, what you're happy with and how you are fixed financially. If you're definitely after a change then go for it :D

nice bikes speed triples...wont slow u down tho well maybe on motorways....trade in price seems norm, ive just been offered £1650 for a mint 2001 y 21000 miles with quite a few mods...wouldnt let it go for that price tho, esp when said dealers are knocking same yrs out for £2800 or so in worst condition..either way good luck with what way u go

I had a Triumph Sprint some years ago, wicked acceleration, handling not as flickable as Storm and with a 5 gallon tank bit top heavy when fuelled up but a great bike.
I was born with nothing and I still have most of it left.

I had a 955 model. nice bikes but keep up the cleaning as the finish on some parts can be a little suspect, also keep an eye on the oil level as mine got through it alarmingly quickly!

dare I say it here but there's a wealth of info (some of it even useful) at http://www.t595.net

good luck.

Triumph

Post by bikerpiker »

4 years ago,to get me back into bikes ,after bein without bikes for aboot 8 years,i bought a '91 Daytona 1000 4/cyl...great bike,..top heavy and just plain heavy, but handled great ,and went like sh1t aff a shovel  Got a go on me mates 1200 bandit,it felt so light and easy to manage compared with my Triumph.
Quality was spot on with the early bikes, they had to be with Triumph startin up again, even my mates with much more modern stuff were amazed by the condition for the age and 40,000 miles.
Owned it over 3 years, sold it n got my money back, put a few hundred £ to it n bought my storm, like it loads, but would never rule out another Triumph.
