Hiya We had our hols in Sri Lanka last year. Fantastic place, friendly people, loads to see. Apart from the odd main road most are shall we say "basic" We did a week touring inland with a driver but if you can get a bike would be GR8 fun. I will try n find some info on some local contacts we used (loads cheeper than hol companys) & mail them to you.
The only down side is the tamil, you will see loads of army/police check points around towns etc and they do pull u over, tourists r normally ok tho.
PS U now have the best colour :!:

When I was there, for the last Test match and One-dayers in 2001, I bumped into a chap who'd hired an XT and had got up North by bypassing the army roadblocks north by using the beach. As the island is about the size of Wales you can't go far wrong

Alternatively get a phut phut

Me monkeying around on an arrat distillery tour after the cricket finished early
