At work all they go on aboot is Celtic n Rangers, i just think folk should support their local fitba team......even if they are shite.

Not strictly true, well not all of 'em at once anyway, but lets not dig up the passed shall we?

Well yes and no.

Leeds yes, Desert? well not really.

Stopped going to matches in late 70's / ealy 80's when a friend of mine from school was stabbed and killed on his way to a Spurs away game.

He was separated from his friends and got lost, asked some copper directions to ground and ended up / was sent down a dodgy alleyway, never came out!

I'd normally have been with same group or there abouts, but had a family thing to go to that day so had to miss the match - bloody glad I did.

But that was a long time ago

If you're old enough, you'll remember what a damn silly period it was, if not then there's been enough films made recently glorifying the violence.

Didn't watch, talk, read or have anything whatsoever to do with football again till mid 90's when I started following their fortunes again albeit from a distance.

I think the last 2 matches I attended were Lukics testamonial and the Coca Cola cup final when Villa whooped them

Only field sport I'm likely to attend these days is RL - yes the Bulls, but sadly not as often as I'd like due to family committments most match days.

yes redstormv i am old enough and coulldnt agree more it was a really bad period in football, and i work with a couple of ex united hooligans who still like to tell stories of their train journies to away grounds and all the bad things they did, and thankfuly in the grounds its now a safer place, but i still think it goes on but its now all pre arranged for them to meet up away from grounds to do the fighting, and i was sorry to hear of your mate,

No worries - like I said it was a long time ago. Strange, hadn't thought about it or him in years

It was a big shock at the time, as, although rucks, fights and charges seemed to be just part of the pre and post match entertainment, you don't (or didn't) think it might lead to something like that.

I suppose it's pretty selfish really, but I was really glad that it wasn't me, and that I wasn't there on the day!

Like you say, still happens, even at or near grounds I doubt it will ever totally go away.

RL might have isolated incidents, but perhaps because of the rucks on the pitch, they're very rare. Lots of shouting and chanting etc but thankfully that seems to be as far as it gets.

hi redstormv, well maybe something good came from our posts, like letting you remember your friend in your thoughts and maybe letting you remember a time before when you and your friend had happyer times out with the lads just enjoying life, but sorry if it has upset you to remember that time
