One of the funniest tales I read was actually a true story and got an 'honourable mention' in the Darwin Awards a few years back.
Bloke in Canada takes a brand new Jeep and faithful dog with him on a fishing trip to a frozen lake in winter. Drives Jeep out onto feet-thick ice of the lake. Now this character has the bright idea that chopping a hole in the ice with a chainsaw is for mugs, so takes a stick of Dynamite and lights the fuse before chucking it some distance away. Plan is to blow a hole in the ice through which he can easily drop his lines. What he didn't expect was the faithful retriever dog to go running off after the Dynamite and then start to return with it. Man yells at the dog but it just gets confused and warily continues to bring the stick back. In desperation the man pulls his gun out the car and shoots at the dog, misses, but that just confuses and frightens the dog even more and it runs and hides under the Jeep. With the Dynamite.
Apparently he hadn't even made the first payment on the Jeep [now at bottom of lake] and his insurance company just laughed at him.
