More bad news,Sherburn 13/8/08

Post by stevevtr1 »

Just watched calender tonight & the headlines were 2 bikers lose there lives in separate accidents 30 mins apart on the same road (between the cafe & the village).
Get the feeling that before long theres going to be more restrictions around the cafe & surrounding roads. :(
Thought the officer in the report was reasonable in his statement (definetly a million miles away from the attitude of the juggler in Wales Brunstenstein or whatever his name is. :!:

speeds not always the case Lee as im proof of that and many others, so is the guy who parked up the butt of the jeep near bridge he wasnt speeding was he you witnessed it he just wasnt paying attention to whats infront of him, no matter what you ride your still not safe so shoving cruiser's down everyones throat aint gonna make a blind bit of difference. im not having ago just my opinion ride what you wanna ride its not the bike its the people who ride em.

Oh FFS get of yer high (or should that be low?) horse Lee :?

OK OK so you've had 26 or whatever years accident free riding and now found 'religion' I'm really happy for you, you are one of the careful, more observant, lucky, whatever, ones.

A mate of mine turns 61 in September has been riding for over 40 accident free years and has just bought himself yet another Blade a nice '08 red / maroon one. I've lost count of how many blades he's had, changed approx every 3 years or so since they came out!

We've been through this a few times recently - the upshot being, everyone knows the risks they're taking just walking out the door in a morning, let alone throwing their leg over a bike.

Speed is not always a factor nor are idiotic stunts, as a biker you are vulnerable, period

We've recently lost a forum member too (the details if at all relevant [NOT] we still don't know) which more than anything makes us all take stock of what we do out there.

Apologies if it seems I'm having a go mate, but I for one am fed up of people preaching about the rights and wrongs of motorcycling. Surely we have enough with the successive goverments anti-bike legislation and the bloody do-gooder nanny state safety forums whatever their guise :x :x

I have every intention of getting a 'slow' bike, but it won't be a cruiser! A nice old Brit to potter around the Dales on is more the mark. However, as long as I can throw my leg over a Sports bike without too many aches and pains, I will be doing 8)

Damn Calendar for not having a re-run on their website, had to watch the Look North re-run only to find it never got a mention!

Found this anyway......

Two fatal bike crashes just minutes apart

Two motorcyclist have died in separate accidents within 30 minutes of each other and just a few hundred yards apart on a North Yorkshire road.

The first rider, a man in his 40s from Doncaster, was on a red 600cc Honda bike which was in collision with a Mercedes car on the B1222 Newthorpe to Sherburn-in-Elmet road.

The second man was 58-year-old from the Pontefract area. He died when he lost control of his bike and hit a wall on the same road, near Newthorpe - about 500m from the first incident.

Police said the 58-year-old victim was in a group of three bikes, two of which were in the process of turning into a side road when the accident happened at 6.15pm on Sunday.

The rider was taken to Pinderfields Hospital, in Wakefield, by air ambulance but he died later.

Part of the B1222 had been closed due to the first incident, which happened at 5.45pm.

Following this first incident involving the red Honda, four people in the Mercedes were taken to hospital suffering from minor injuries.
Police have appealed for witnesses to both collisions.
