CRASHED...D`oh....any advice please?
Hi Guys,
Firstly please excuse my absecene from the forums these past few months. Ive been so backed up with uni, work and social nightmares...
Wednesday evening i crashed (lost the front end on a roundabout) and got crushed between my bike and an armco barrier. Thankfully im okish but my bike really isnt...
It wasnt in the best of conditions before the accident but now im thinking it might be time to part company and find another storm rather than fixing it?
Could anybody give me a rough idea of what its worth in its currant state:
p reg, red, 4 owners, 40k (15ish on second engine), some service history
good bits:
other than fairings its relatively good cosmetic condition for its age
wavey rear disk
just had new front EBC HH pads
front braided lines
just had all wheel bearings and drive bearings replaced
new +2 rear sprocket
bad bits:
NS fairing has crack and has been resprayed in parts.
OS fairing is mullered, hole to right of headlight, various cracks
OS indicator is mullered
OS footpeg is missing
Rear brake pedal needs replacing
Front brake lever is missing
screen needs replacing
clocks need replacing (or mending maybe?)
crack to headlight (not sure if this will pass an MOT?)
front head has a slight leak just above the exhaust around what i believe is the rocker cover....
carbs need balancing (was just about to do this grrr)
theres scratchs to the OS engine cover, zorst and something i cant remmber!
will need tyres soonish
i dont really want to break it as im so busy with working for september and wouldnt mind fixing it on the cheap? maybe streetfightering??
any input would be helpful as im a bit depressed now and not sure what to do.
Will get photos up in a bit.

Nightmare mate, looks like an easy fix though from just looking at the piccies. Decide what you want to do
1. Need it for transport (easy to make it road worthy but not pretty)
2. Still want a good looking bike (ebay/silvers bits with a bit of cost and patience
3. Cant be arsed and fancy a change (sell it on fleabay and buy something else)
Up to you? Be aware that the Storm IS the best bang for bucks available though. Saying that I got a reasonable Blade for £1600 off Ebay though.
Indicators, screen are cheap as chips. Brackets are cheap on ebay there is just the Tyres and fairing that will sting. Rocker gaskets are cheap and a peice of wee wee to change.
Good luck with your decision

I may, and I emphasise MAY be able to sort out some freshly painted red fairings, tank and all. I know a guy who owns a custom paint place and he's selling up and the firestorm bits are all left from a non paying customer.
If you are interested let me know how much you think they are worth and I'll put it to him as he's buggering off to Oz in a month!

Hi Toby,
Really sorry to hear about your wee mishap, but at least you're OK ish?
IMO as long as you can sort out the leak, keep it, make it road worthy for now (looks to be mostly cosmetic), and replace fairings etc from e-blag, David Silvers, or guys on here. Mirror and brake levers should be easy to source.
Looking at the damage to the clocks, mirror and headlight I'd say that the fairing bracket is mullered too as the damage all seems to be where they mount. You can pick them up cheap of e-blag sometimes, I've seen 'em go for £10-£15 - Think I paid £50 when I needed one but there was a 'drought' at the time! Check your forks too mate, just in case the front wheel took a knock.
Scratches, scuffs and scrapes won't stop it passing an MOT, or running, just look like it's been in the wars. These can be smoothed ower and painted up easy.
I personally don't like many fightered bikes, and IMO for a Storm to look good fightered takes a lot of work, probably more than restoring what you've got there.
As Jim says, Storms are pretty much the best bang for your buck ATM so stick with it mate.
Keep us posted,
Graeme.

sorry to hear you had an off dude good to hear your ok. well the bike isnt that hard to fix honest, most of it will be straight forward replacement parts, it might be an idea to take your rocker cover off to why its leaking see if its the rocker cover or the head or the head gasket but the bike will be easy to fix and you might enjoy the task as well any how main thing is your ok

wheres the road kill............?

Looks like it's the cam cover gasket leaking, however oil does have a strange way of coming out of somewhere and blowing around or tracking up casting marks, best bet would be to clean it off and dry it thoroughly and then coat the suspected area with talcum powder, run it up if it's possible and you'll find the leak easily
On another note I have a standard front screen (it has a few good scratches on it that could be polished out) you can have for the price of postage to get you on your way if you decide to repair it on a budget.

thanks loads for all the help guys....i have decided.....*drum roll*...
to sell her! Theres too many things which need fixing and ive been offered finance on a GSXR1000 so am likelly to do that!
Great ideas with the leak fixing HOWEVER its not leaking, its broken, the head itself has a small chunk out of it, liquid metal etc didnt work, the only real way to sort it is by replacing the head!
Look out for a cheap butt spares/repairs bike on fleebay in the next week!

Chris, next month i think, i need to raise a heafty deposit so that the repayments are low enough not to effect my studys and stuff. I dont really want to sell the storm but feel i will love the GSXR once i have it!
I dont surpose you guys could give me a ballpark figure of what you think its worth in its currant condition? I have no idea what to ask... ;-S

Mate I have not seen the bike in the flesh so I may be overestimating but ebay it, explain what damage is there (after sorting out the cheap items) I bet the bids get up to high £900's. Could be totally wrong though, wait and see what the rest think, if you look at what just engines are fetching and a straight frame with docs thats where the cash is.
