Storm's off the road (rectifier burnt out.
Well finally happened, little convoy over to South Wales, me and the GF, parked up Tintern Abby for a fag break, go to start the bike it tries to start then dies, think must be starter jamed or flat bettery, so push it around for a little while, try to start again same problem. after several more tries, decided to stop as battery would go flat. Called out RAC, chap turned up fantastic character, very helpfull, determined that Battery was not charging, also noticed a smell / burning comming from the Rectifier right hand side under the rear seat cowl, tested and completly shot, seemed to be the orgional!, he called for a transporter for the bike, was fun getting it up on the ramps helping the other chap tie it up. Met alot of other bikers around who came up for a chat was quite spactacular seeing the storm up on the back of the low loader but sad feeling....
Had a meal in that pub next to the abby, nice and sunny day. Would have liked to made it to Symonds Yatt, alas day cut short............
Anyway i'm in need of a rectifier now, the RAC chap did mention to get a heavy duty one, so where is the best place and cheapest to get one from also part number for the heady duty type
The current one I have got is "SH633-12" (6.0) written on it. Gonna need one quick so I can get back on the road again, any help mutcho gratious.

I fitted one of these http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/#779X0. Cost about the same but no buggering around with extra wires etc.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

Hi Nath,
You should've rung round local scrappers for R1/R6 Reg/Rec and done the mod as described on this thread
http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5308
Much cheaper than £65
My R6 R/R cost me £10, 5 short lengths of wire and 10 spade connectors - job done - don't even think about the R/R and charging issues now, never mind worry!
Graeme.

Its ok M8 I would have done that option if I didn't need it so quick being without the bike and the other option to drive my spare CB500 didn't ring to me cus I miss the storm so much, hoping its gonna arrive today, just one more light on the battery to go out (on charge) then everything is a go (pending posty).
Just a quicky, a jamed starter wouldn't have caused a large draw in current causing the rectifier to overload and burn, or is it just as the rest of the threads suggest crappy inferior unit which needs to be changed due to age, I'm getting a finned type kinda heat sink so hoping that will keep things a bit cooler not as big as the R1 rectifier that is a monster
. At least I know for next time now. Simple to change around thou.

Wouldn't have thought so Nath,
Your 3 yellow wires are AC voltage from generator, diodes of the the R/R which is a bridge rectifier converts the 3 AC waveforms into a nice flat 13-14V DC signal to charge the battery.
No rectumfrier, no charge to battery - suppose it'll last as long as the charge in the battery then conk - certainly wouldn't start again if you stopped engine or stalled it.
Not sure if it needs RR in circuit to start just off battery or not - never tried it. Probably with the 'brains' gubbins in the tail it will.

I wouldnt do that m8, the reg / rect controls the amount of power alowed around the circuit, if you by pass it . The full power generated will be to much for the 12v sytem on your bike and could do untold damage. If the rec.reg is failing then one should notice the lights are brighter, the clocks go dappy and all sorts of weird and wonderful things happen.Seven Of Nine Firestorm wrote:Is there a bypass which can be done if it packs up in future just to get the bike back, crossing wires or patching together.
