Reserved post for updates, changed project name from Bast**D to Growler due to reasons explained later.
Update: Right, indeed the bike was named Growler by a girl I know, she wanted to dry hump it. I know some odd girls
I managed to change the CCT’s, for a while the bike was in various states of repair:
Looks like someone has replaced the front CCT before, there are scratches on the engine from where they dropped it out of the frame to be able to work on it, such foolish people. Anyhow, I’ve replaced the CCT’s and now found one has a leaky O-Ring, I haven’t been using it much because of this and other things that have happened since my last post. Once I had done the CCT’s and cleaned up a lot of the wiring I started riding it a bit to see what state the bike was in, get a feel for anything that needs doing.
Now for a little story: Once I was happy and got the speedo working (or so I thought) I was looking for the first opportunity to take it for a spin to check the speedo worked right and see how it performed. So I had need to take a girl home one night, 2am (yeah I know, stupid already ringing true) I forgot I hadn’t fitted my wing mirrors yet. I was heading down a road, quite long and straight, it would be a 40 zone if only the council weren’t such gits keeping it at 30 for no apparent reason (no, there are no houses along it, fields on either side). I was stuck behind a slow moving taxi and getting annoyed as there were no other cars around (no wing mirrors). Noticed the road ahead was clear, and I thought, screw it. Accelerated around, then slowed down after to a more reasonable speed. Good point to tell you that after I left the house I realised the speedo was buggered. So, as I slowed down, a car pulled alongside with a blue light in the front of the windscreen. sh1t.
Long story short, Pulled over, cop tells me “I clocked you at 70†exact words. Gives a verbal NIP, That was the beginning of September, I fell out with my bike a bit after that because I was crapping myself over the idea of losing my licence. They still have 2 weeks to send the letter(I think) but.. I’m hoping he just wanted to scare the crap outa me, if so, job well done. If not… well, we will see.
Back to the bike, this was it when I got caught:
I have since put on some Danmoto Jitsu Exhausts:

I need to get the Carbs balanced and the engine Dyno’d and after that I’m going to see how well the exhausts balance. If I’m not happy then my friend says he will chop out the 2-1-2 exhausts stupidity going on under the bike. I mean, REALLY?! Why have two down pipes into 1 pipe, then back into two for the exhausts?! Seems like pointless effort to me.
Now, The whole point about this bike for me, was a bit of fun, I didn’t want a bike that was for anything else, so yes, to be honest, the front end is ugly, the bike is loud and obnoxious, but it has character and I love it.
Things I currently have to work on:
Pretty up the wiring, as it’s all on the left of the handlebars there is still quite a lot visible and actually gets in the way a bit, but that’s just a job for a rainy day.
I have a CAT 1 alarm to fit: usually they have to be pro fit, but in this case, the company I ordered a alarm from gave me a free upgrade because they didn’t have what I wanted in stock.
Front fairing/plastic: I need something to pretty up the front a bit to go above and below the headlights.
Questions I need answers to:
Does anyone know where to get a good rev counter for a V-twin with wasted spark?
Does anyone know how to make a reserve light, I’ve tried just connecting a 12v LED to the wire but I think it was permanently on, so I’m no electronics expert, I could do with a hand here.
So glad for the madness.
