I am now on my 2nd r1 (none MOSFET ) reg .
The first came with the vtr and under charged the bat .
The second is working well but I will still change it to MOSFET when I can .
I just want to minimise the chance of braking down .

Its not about anal microvolts, its about fitting a good quality, MODERN bit of kit so you don't break down.
You do not need to understand how things work to have common sense. You dont need to know how a Tv works to use it??

I have had 4 RR's go, the last 2 days ago. on the VTR.

The one before that , when it went, blew all the bulbs and the battery on a very dark, very busy A1.Which here has motorway volume traffic but is single carriageway, and is not lit.

The thought of micro volts did not make the decision, saving my life did.....Fitting equipment that minimises that happening again is all that matters..........But that may just be anal...

thats fair enough, horses for courses, the most likely failure of a bike part is a tyre, i just think its part of the game so to speak and to worry about this dat wotever like..hehe young speak.....is getting away from what we "older" bikers treasure, call me a tw@ i dont mind, but in a way breaking down on a country road and waiting for AA man for 3 hours is somewhat why we do it in a perverse way, I for one cant worry about if i pee on the rim, cough over the toast, do my laces up slackly, stress wether the carrots are "a point" loosen up and be a biker not a twatter.

Don't think so as it seems more of a cheapy Chinese pattern part.

Look for used R/R from breakers.

Standard Honda (non-mosfet) later finned R/R plug-n'play replacement - still much better than pre '01 unfinned 'cooking' R/R.

As for R1 R/R you're looking for one marked FH-***

Read this post to see your choice of MOSFET R/R

Phimosis..."this dat wotever like..hehe young speak.....is getting away from what we "older" bikers treasure"

You seem to be assuming everyone is way younger than you? :D

Although you are probably right that not everyone is old enough to have owned an early Gold Wing.

I have ridden bikes every day for a loooong time and know enough about breaking down..in the place I come from, there is , or was no breakdown service, you fixed it or pushed, a looong way.No mobile phones, no telephone boxes, no houses... I have had enough experience to not see breakdowns as a romanticised part of biking..look mum , my first breakdown..I'm a real biker now....I hope I have enough mechanical nous to make sure I dont break down, that's for amateurs and romancers. :cool2
How old are you? :eh:

Just looked at yer profile Phimosis, :D
....Why would anyone aged 47 as you are.....assume they are ..Very Old.....
You are just a youngster yet, so don't think you are throwing your pearls of wisdom to spotty teens raised on Fast Bikes mag....you'ld be making a mistake, son.

Fookin hell I've been away from this thread for too long.
s this the right R/R i need...
It is but as wicky said it looks chinese so not as reliable as genuine ones. Don't go changing your R/R unless you know for sure it's the cause of your problems. It will just be a waste of money. Get the multimeter out and test it or borrow one as a test first.

Phimosis there's two types for the R1 the early ones as you say are solid, good R/R, Got one on my bike. But the later ones with the dual plug are MOSFIT and are a better option if one can afford the extra, and one's R/R is fooked anyway and needs replacing.

Rolling, stop winding him up. I feel old too and I'm younger.
