That's very interesting, you have me convinced if it has Carbon Fibre in it I have always used P40 and P38 in the past

The other week I used fibreglass resin sheets for the first time ever. What a horrible messy job that was, yuk..... and I rubbed my eye after washing them at one stage which wasn't too clever

Didn't get to do much yesterday on bike.. had a bit of running around to do plus decided to crack on with my mates bike so left mine to one side for now. Off out in a mo, want to finish mates VFR off and have this lot to paint.. Just got to rub down the tank then paint all bits white.


This is my mates bike in the pound after it was stolen/recovered late last year


And all being well she will look something alone the lines of this when done...


As for my bike.. well I did repair the tail piece, but thats about as far as I got.. Decided to cut a piece of plastic to fit the hole rather than overlapping as I was originally going too... Picture shows the new piece in place with it all stitched up ready to weld.


You can see 3 small welds on the panel, also did the same on the inside.


Quick test of strength Thats a 1.25lt coke bottle full of water sat in the bottom of the panel.


Finish welding and then gave it a quick smooth over ready for filling..




And this is the panel after the first quick fill with SMC filler.. just need to take it down a little more then skim over in a fine/finishing filler :-)

Got to be fair Carl.. looks a tidy job on your fazer parts... its hard work going down the rattle can route.. takes some patience too. I use cans if im doing a bit of satin blacking around things but other than that I keep away purely because i'm crap with them :-p Like your stacks too.. sheet fibre glass is great for making stuff like that.. besides being a bit messy at times its good stuff, have used the matting and resin a few times in past but usually been on fibreglas cars or boats. Also used the mixable fibreglass in a tin, basically the same to use as the SMC I linked.

Plenty of fun and games.. between being busy and really crappy work on my panels in the past things have been a bit slower that i would of liked but hey ho.. half way there now.
Everything in primer, all being well will start rubbing it all down on Thursday aiming for a fresh coat of paint on the weekend

well jealous of your set up, thats a great bit of repair work, as good as new, it just shows you how products and techniques have come along over the years, top work buddy, would you think of spray work for forum members?

Spray work for forum members... I'll paint anything if the price is right On a serious note if I can make a few quid and save someone a few quid then i'm game.

Just to give you an idea of where i'm at.. the garage/booth in the pics is mine.. well family owned (me and my brother). I'm a panel beater/sprayer by trade although I havent been in the game for over 5 years. I was the last family member working in the garage around 5 years ago.. at the time I was a single parent and I wasn't going through the best times in life so I wrapped the place up swearing I would never go back. Garage has been rented out for years until the then tenant moved out which was last June. Since then I have just used the place as a hobby shed doing the odd job for friends/family and generally filling the place up with my crap. Soon as I started going around there old customers, friends etc started showing up.. First job I did since closing the garage was last september.. only done a bout 10 jobs since but getting back into it, and actually enjoying it which is a first in many years. Now I got loads of peeps bugging me to do work for them. Thing is.. i'm not gonna reopen the place, we will be looking to sell the garage later this year/early next because my brother wants his share out of the property. But for now I can pretty much do what i want around there. Been out of work for a while and sick of the unsuccessful job hunting so about to register myself self employed, got a few different things lined up so gonna be a odd job man for a while.. plus in between i will start taking on some paintwork.

I don't have no trouble painting bikes but I haven't gone far down the custom route so I am limited to what I can do.. the plastic welding Iv'e been doing.. well that's self taught after watching you tube videos recently.. needed to know how to do it so I could fix my mates bike up.. and then ofc once I started on his I had to pull mine apart. Got another VFR750 to do shortly for same mate that owns the one previously posted.. he seems more confident in my talent than me.. looking like we will be going with a black, either marble or frosting effect and I must add I haven't attempted either before, will post some pics one it's done..see what you think As it is hes been bugging me to do the stripes on his bike that I have just painted white but decided i didn't want to.. if it was my bike I would of gone for it but didnt want to use his baby as a test bed.

Talking of white bike.. heres some of his panels I did Sunday.. wasn't going for a perfect finish, panels will now be flatted down then the stripes painted on and it will be re lacquered... my job was to make sure they just came out very clean.. seeing as they are such a bright white and would show up any marks, dust etc.

Ohhhh forgot to mention my bike lol Blue..it's gonna be blue. Atleast I think that is what it's gonna be... haven't picked up the paint yet so still got time to change my mind but quite set on the idea. Looking at a darkish.. deep blue pearl metallic with silver stickers and bright white wheels for now. Gonna polish the swing arm and frame up and will paint the subframe? frame under seat.. not sure what you call it.. either silver to match forks or white to match wheels.

the white does look super clean, blues a great choice, ignore all the nay sayers, they're just jealous.
i like the look of white wheels, but seeing how dirty my black rear wheel gets, i just couldn't be arsed to do white wheels.

A dark Navy Blue would look nice a bit like the later VFR Blue. You don't want that Tahitian immigrant Blue, it's way too common and not classy enough.

No I'm serious, obviously not the immigrant sh1t, but as to colour a darker navy blue, almost indigo is a nice mature colour that does not age. And then there is the added bonus of it not being a common colour and a little unique for a Storm.
