That's a useful picture- as you say the wear mark on it indicates that the rotor passes under the flat pickup bar, and not alongside it. But you can also see, next to each bolt hole, small location holes, which I expect locate onto dowels in the housing. That would make sense because clearance holes which allow threaded bolts through will not be accurate enough to act as locators on their own.

By the way, I have made a mistake on the compression ratios, upon re-reading.
VTR1000F series run 9.4:1
XL is 9.0:1,
SP1 is 10.8:1
JE pistons for a VTR1000F 11.5:1
http://www.jepistons.com/Catalogs/Power ... _1000.aspx

They're so lovely I need perspex cylinder heads and bores.

But it would also indicate the possibility of an XL owner fitting std Storm pistons as a small upgrade.....Probably simpler to just swap engines, though.

Going from 9.4:1 to JE's 11.5:1 with a 4 degree ignition advancer probably explains why mine pinks with a wide open throttle at low revs using 95 RON now, thinking about it.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I have my eye on some from the USA, MDIPerformance on eBay.

JE PISTONS / POWERSPORTS (eBay item number: 270730693056)

Make: HONDA

Model(s): 1997-2001 VTR 1000
Standard Bore: 98mm

Pistons: 2
Bore: 98mm (STD)
Displacement: 996cc
Weight (Grams): 385g
Compression Ratio: 11.5:1
Alloy: Machined from 2618 T6 high tensile forged aluminium
Skirt: Round
Rings Included: Use OEM Rings (not included)
Pins Included: 945-2500-14-51C
Application Note: None
Kit Feature: Pins, pin fitment, lock and rings included

The pistons are £172.76 with £47.49 shipping & customs tax on top, I'd love them.

I know if I did buy them I would be kicked out :wtf: & living rough off food banks for the foreseeable future.

I've had the (who's parcel is this? what do you want that for? & how much did that cost?) warning already :redface

I am taking it one step at a time, looking to get the advancer & MCCT next month (for Christmas..), then to fit the VTR cams
