Worth adjusting the clearances?

Thanks Tony, Chris and AMcQ, you remind me why I was so happy to come back to this forum

So I resigned myself to taking all the things I'd added to the bike off to go back to the dealer, put the PAIR back on, swapped the cans back to standard, indicators and all the other stuff. Rolled I t back into the garage and thought I'd give it one more shot to make sure I hadn't missed a connector and it started fine, ran fine, and a spin around the block confirmed it rode fine

Clearly something in the above mods it did not like, and so I shall ride it as Honda intended for a while to make sure all is still well. Thanks again for your kind offers of kit, services and the like, it is very much appreciated. If ever I can return the offer I shall. For the moment though, all is well again in VTR land!!

it could be something as simple as a trapped hose, a wrong connection etc, try 1 of the mods. ride it, do another if its ok etc. Common sense approach sometimes can work!

I'm not even going to try Tony! The farts need sorting though, will a rejet do that? It's deffo worse on the race cans

First, try new plugs, make sure the coils, caps and leads are all good, and the air filter is nice and clean.

Assuming all those are ok, then yes, try adjusting the fuel screws beneath the carbs.
First turn them each until they're fully in, counting the number of turns.

Then, after putting them back to where they were, turn both out half a turn each, try that, then reset to the original position and in half a turn. The report any change in your problem.

That should give us an idea of what direction we should go.

But yes, it's easier to run it on a dyno. The problem, though, is that the sniffer on a dyno samples the gases which have been mixed together from both cylinders.
So it can be difficult to tell what each cylinder is doing.
However, as both of yours are popping back, let's assume that they're both at the same state, either lean (most likely) or rich.

If the plate sealing the PAIR port on the cam cover doesn't seat nicely, you get a horrible noise! I found this out on my VFR800 when I left the reed valve holder in place but it fouled the plate so it wouldn't seat. Worst exhaust leak I've ever heard.
