Sometimes........

Post by bob the builder »

..........you just got to admit you got it wrong!!

Recently I purchased a Triumph Speed Triple, after selling the VTR. I posted a bit about how happy I was and what a great bike it is.

Well, after 900 miles (456 in one day) I have realised that as much as the bike looks amazing it does not suit me. Wind blast gets so annoying that i ride faster to get home, heavy controls give wrist ache and me nether regions get a bashing over every bump due to the forward sloping seat.

I have tried to convince mesel that I will adapt but after today have decided to change for a Kawasaki ZX 636 2005 model.

In Perth we have a dealer who offers a 30 day money back gaurantee if you do not like your bike, although i passed this by 7 days and did more miles than the allowed mileage (500) they are giving me my money back. Having bought a few bikes off them in the past I guess loyalty pays in the end.

Timbo will be pleased to see me joining the Kwaker ranks, and yes, it's green, very green.

B the B

Nice deal if you can get it with that 'try with an extended buy' etc.
I'd give a dealer business with that sort of genuine attitude. Good for him!!!!
Hope you're happy with the tiny Kwacker!!!

To be honest, if i could afford a 636 i would change in an instant! They're fast, handle like their on rails and have good reliability! Plus i think the styling on the later models is great!

At least you're man enough to admit it BTB :!:

Sorry too hear it's not suitable, but if you don't try you're never going to know :!:

As LSM says, Nice deal if you can get it with that 'try with an extended buy' etc.
I'd give a dealer business with that sort of genuine attitude. Good for him!!!!

that is a brilliant scheme and I would also give someone like that my business too :!:

Keep us posted on the ZXR636,

Cheers,

Chris.

Hi Bob,

Sorry to hear you're not happy with the Speed Triple.

A mate of mine had one and did say it was a bit heavy. From what I've heard think that goes for most if not all the Triumphs compared with equivalent Japs.

Also had to be fought into corners.

IMO the only thing going for it was the lovely sound of a triple - would still have one just for that, oh, and the frogspit green!

My own recent experience on the un-faired Fazer 600 ('07) hire bike were not disimilar to yours. The blast from the unfaired bike was terrible. OK up to 70, but anything above that for long periods made your arms ache terribly. Made you want to ride faster to to get home on motorway riding especially.
Although it wasn't heavy on the wrists and was quite a comfortable riding position, the bike would not suit me, felt too short in the leg for me. Would have had to change the pegs for adjustables if it was mine.

It did have a lovely kick in the ass from about 7500rpm upwards though! The bike came alive and was lots of fun. Sounded good at these revs too - even with standard cans.

My one BIG hate with it, was the ignition! the position of the barrell was such that to get the key in and out you had to hold the clutch cable to one side, even then it was tricky - Very poor design IMO.

Let's know how the 636 compares mate, hope you have more luckj with that.

Never bought a bike from a dealer yet, but I would deffo give someone like your local dealer ny business.

Graeme.

Nice thread BTB , would make me think twice now before going for a naked bike. The 636? is that the underseat pipe variant or not? either way I have a mate with the ZX6R and he loves it......

it is the underseat model from 2005, very roomy i must say and 128 bhp at the crank which some say gives you 114 at the back wheel. will update from weds on which is delivery day.
