Hi Guys and Gals
What are your thoughts on the Triple compared to the Storm?
Cheers
Buggy
Triumph Speed Triple........your thoughts please
I'll talk to Bob the Builder, who comes on this forum occasionally.
He had one, after he sold his Storm. Needless to say, he didnt have it long, before trading up to a ZX 636.
There might be a post , one sec ima check.... ah here it is. Hope it helps!

You don't say which model. I had a 955 before I bought my storm. I can't say I was overawed by it, especially when the first engine I had in it shredded the head. The ensuing argument with Triumph warranty department would have been funny if I hadn't been so out of pocket. They accused me of not putting any oil in it, when infact it had been full before I made a 90 mile round trip.
As someone with a degree in metallurgy I understand the importance of lubricating hot reciprocating metal parts.
They couldn't tell me why the engine management system hadn't detected a low oil pressure either.
Funnily enough when I complained to the dealer at both of the two services that it had that it ran super hot all the time (before the failure) I was given the old "they all do that sir".
They wanted £3,300 to fix the engine, I bought a brand new engine from a breaker which they fitted for £1,800. Strangely how this one ran five degrees cooler all the time.
I was enjoying it more on the second engine until a myopic driver t-boned me and put me in hospital but wouldn't say I ever fell in love with it.
Anyway, I would say that they aren't as grunty as owners like to make out, its quickish but should have more bottom end really. Most owners fit a new pipe which probably helps. There's a tuning device called a tune boy for the technically minded, it allows you to set your own ignition maps directly on the ECU so no messing around with powercommanders and the like. Have a look at the t595.net forum there's some good guys on there.
The crackling/popping on the overrun was nice but the CO2 setting straight from the factory needs looking at as they often stall as you pull up to the lights. this is often fixed by dealers at a service.
I would say that the finish on mine was fairly poor also, rusting bowden screws after six months of ownership is simply not good enough. The plastic tank scratches easily and is obviously useless for magnetic tank bags.
If you are used to a fairing its a good wat to develop a neck like mike tyson although not too bad at legal speeds.
They can get through headlamp bulbs quite quickly, vibes at just the right frequency to be destructive.
If you plan on taking a passenger you'll need to fit a grab rail, careful if you order Rentec one, best to do it over the phone as they used to have the same part number for the 955 and the older model which have different seat units.
It handles okay but the steering is pretty slow and the wide bars are just the right height to catch every wing mirror in town when you're filtering through traffic meaning you can't very well.
As with all naked bikes, the mirrors are rubbish and work loose easily.
Avon Venom tyres work quite well with it as do bridgestones.
The newer 1050 model is supposed to be an improvement but after my treatment by Triumph I won't ever be buying another bike from them so have no idea what its like.
Happy to answer any specific questions anyone has.

Triple for me if I decide to change but I'm not sure yet - can't find anything I like more than the Storm, I always come back to Triple when I look.......we'll see
