Trawled through some of the CCT threads but haven't been able to get anymore ideas on my problem...hope someone can shed some light!
I changed both CCT's about a month or so ago using Sirch's advice - nothing wrong with the originals but I was taking her to south of France and didn't want to risk them going bad. (98 model - 13K miles)
About 1000 miles into the trip, the rear CCT started making the tell-tale noises which I tried to ignore. Anyhow I completed the trip with the noise coming and going and have probably only put 2.5K miles on her since it was installed.
Has anyone had similar problems? It's doing my nut in!
If you followed Sirch's fine advice it won't be the installation. I had a crap new CCT as they come from Honda 'overwound' as in that key holding them beyond their normal midway working range. Figured the spring is a bit over compressed so not as good as the factory original fitment in this spring's respect.
I'd tried another new CCT myself and that has worked OK.
Grrrrrrrrr
"Only ride as fast as your guardian angel can fly" !!!
I've had a new CCT play up before, after about 1000 miles just like yours, so as LSM did I replaced it and that fixed it
I then inspected the old one. It appeared to me that there was a slight resistance with the plunger (when I retracted it with a small screwdriver in the end of the CCT) right at the point where the plunger would have been sat when in the engine. I feel that, that resistance may well have been causing the plunger to stick at different times and that was what was causing the rattle from the cam-chain, because in normal working circumstances the plunger moves in and out a small amount at certain rev's. Obviously if it was sticking it couldn't do that.
Cheers for the responses guys - it's comforting to hear that others have come across the same scenario. Looks like I'll be phoning Silvers on the weekend
