You need to post this in the Bike section really, but in any event we would need a bit more detail to help :D

it might not be a clunk,, it could be the reputable pop they do when ticking over at low revs ... the one that also leads to it cutting out some times..

obviously it could be a totally different sound to the one im thinking. but i had the same worries when i first got my storm...

Does it happen in neutrel , :?: or only when riding at low revs :?: ..if the latter could be something as simple as the drivechain needing adjusted :!:

Welcome back to biking. 8)

Tank rubber fixings worn/missing?
Seized rear suspension area leading to notchy movement that can be felt via the tank?
Does it do it with a full tank of fuel or a low tank or any amount in the tank (thinking low fuel warning light sender float here you see knocking side)

We need more to go on I feel.

Backfiring through the carbs, they all do it to some extent or other. Get your carbs balanced.

+ 4 on the theory of the bike just spitting back through the carbs occasionally, they all do it now and again. What makes it sound worse is because the air box under the petrol tank is so big, it amplifies the sound :!:

I agree with the carb issue,

Although it does sound hellish. Sounds like the piston slapping off the top of the cylider head. Worried me for a while till mines were balanced. Usually more noticable when cold.

cheers

Same here. Sounds like a carb backfiring (reverberating in the airbox)

Mine does it. My other Honda (Sohc4 motor) is prone to it too, particularly with the pod filters and modified fueling from stock.

If it's a 'now and again' issue then no worries. If it's a constant backfire/knock then grab a carbtune and sync them up.
