MOTO GP season starts this weekend!

Post by sirch345 »

Don't forget :D

The TV guide says Easter Sunday at 1pm (BBC2) is the preview.

Then Easter Monday it says another chance to see the race at 1pm (BBC2), although unless I've missed it I can't see where it was shown before then on BBC :!:

I think a lot of the coverage i on the red button, but how can you find out in advance and set a reminder?

I'm pleased that Eurosport have it back - maybe not "live" live for the MotoGP class, but close enough for me :D

That's a good point Paul. Perhaps they'll tell you the time table for the red button after the preview on Sunday,

The floodlit racing was perhaps a good idea when Qatar took place in October when day time temperatures were extremely high and the risk of rain extremely low.

Hopefully now, Dorna will see sense and put an end to the circus we had the misfortune of witnessing last night!

A 125 race that lasted all of 4 laps, a 250 race which had it run its course would have no doubt yielded a totally different result. That’s not to take anything away from Barberá, Cluzel & Di Meglio, what there was of the race was, as spectacular as it usually is.

Now we have the remote possibility of the 800 race tonight!

What about the riders? What about the fans? What about TV schedules, What about Satelite slots?

Apart from anything else, why in times of global recession where teams and sponsors are going to the wall or cut back, do they think i's right to have millions of watts of lights glaring down? I'm no eco warrior but this is just feckin ludicrous!

Please let this be the last floodlit race just to please certain rich countries or promoters! It’s our MotoGP, with out the fans, there’d be no need to televise or advertise!

I thought the same Graeme re:- the lighting in our eco times :!: Not exactly a good advert.

I suppose it all depends on how high a temperature it is during the daylight time, to whether it would be possible/safe to race then,

Chris.

PS. Has anyone found out (if the race is run this evening) who's televising it other than Sky :?:

Well accroding to Julian, Toby, et al, the day time temperatures at this time of year are no where near as warm as some of the Italian races later in the season, so that's strike 1 for floodlights.

Apparently, according to the race engineers and tyre boffins, the track temperatures at Qatar for the 'night time' race are the lowest of any race in the MotoGP calendar, bar none!
Strike 2 for floodlit racing!

Can't be bothered remembering or typing a strike 3 4 or 5 but they're there....

I just hope Dorna or whoever's responsible sees sense in time for next year
