Beware - MCN this week

A motorcyclist who was a ride leader was punished by a Crown Court Judge for the actions of other rider's in his group.

A group of three riders were out and an unmarked Police R1 clocked the lead bike at 80 something mph and the second rider at 103 mph. The Judge decided that because of the actions of the leader the other two riders had to ride faster to catch up. He received 6 points and a hefty fine where as he was eligable to be given an endorsable fixed penalty 3 points and £60 fine.

This is not good as it's now case law and therefore cannot be challenged.

Just be mindfull if your in a group that your actions can now be penalised against your ride leader.

Surely any lawyer worth their salt could argue that traffic conditions and other road users could have caused the following bikers to lag behind and not just the excess speed of the lead biker, maybe the motorcycling press should be looking at funding an appeal.

I'd like to add, I don't usually read MCN it's just I was a muppet with a saw the other day and now have a couple of stiches in my left hand.

So I've got more time to dispose of than usual so bougth MCN.......that was about the only thing in it that maybe worth noting!!!!

In my opinion It's just a cheap "one liner" to help boost sales of a slowly failing rag! It's not a patch on the paper it once was....and as for a copper sitting across a"big powerful police bike"on a swingers website...very " Village people".....

So, if you are in a group and get stopped, just say you don't know who the other guys are, you are riding by yourself and therefore cannot be responsible for the other person.

I think you gotta to look at who pulled them over as well before everyone condemns the decision. The copper was on an r1 which therefore means he is probably a very experienced biker to have been choosen for the duty. He wont want to go picking people up willy nilly. The lead rider was more than likely ridin like a rock.

Speeding offences are not usually held at Crown Court but at the Magistrates. This biker seems to have opted to go to Crown hoping 12 good men and true would let him off. Sometimes it works sometimes it don't. For anyone thinking of trying this method remember the penalties at Crown are nearly always greater than at Magistrates. The moral is "if you can't do the time don't do the crime".

The police cop on the R1 is probably an experienced rider(One would hope so)and was right to pull the leading "rock"your word not mine, i agree with storminateacups moral" if you can't do...etc"...But you should not be held responsible for the actions of following riders,we all have our own "throttle" and we each should be held responsible for our own actions...not others,or if indeed the press reports are correct,maybe the police officer's superiors should be held responsible for him appearing on a dubious swingers website...

Bloody stupid isnt it...

Yes, I know the lead rider was probably riding a bit stupidly to get pulled, but even still...

That "law" has got me a little worried now...

I must admit, I dont hang around sometimes but I consider myself a safe, steady rider, who rides accordingly to the weather conditions etc...

But I occasionally go for a blast with friends, one or two of which can be idiots at times...

So if I get pulled am I going to have to take the rap for what they have been doing? :S
