Post by tattie »

Hi all,
Would any of you on here know of the timing belt changing interval for a 54 plate Toyota hi lux 2.5 Ex 280. Any help, or pointing in the right direction  will be much appreciated.

cheers

Thanks for that, much appreciated.

I am looking to buy one at the moment, it is a bit grubby, ie never been cleaned out on the inside and the gadgie selling it is a friend of the owner and did not know if it had been changed, as it has 66k on the clock it should have been done at the garage he said it gets serviced at. Will see what he says tomorrow night. He is looking for 6.5k and no vat for it. everything else that I have found is 7.5k + vat upwards.

Cheers

Hi I may have given you a elbow steer. Most Toyota engines need cambelt at 60,000 but further searches indicate that the 2.5 Hi lux is 150,000 km about 100,000 miles which seems to be when most people change it. It also has a warning light on the dash (mileage related) for cambelt change. Good luck with the new truck.

good bet is to call the garage the seller claims to use and ask them when it is due and they can also to check if they did it from their records.

My mate was just buying a high milage Audi A6 from a 2nd hand dealer, and before he handed over the cash he went through all the service slips and noticed the words "cam belt change" were added in pen onto a printed service report from the Audi dealer. So he phoned the dealer, they checked and were able to tell him that it was not done, and also the filled him in on all the other service and recall upgrades that it had been through in its life. they also told him they thought it was a good well cared for car.
So the outcome is he was able to knock the seller down for the new cam belts and also had a full heath check discussion with the dealers service manager, so he was still happy to buy the car.

So it may be a very good way for you to learn more about your 4x4 and find some bargining points as well.
