What I have learned today

Don't buy from ebay .... I always get let down. So unhappy about that.

You can pull apart a Firestorm headlight. Apply heat to the joint and it will release.

You can polish out major scratches and accident damage from plastic lenses. The unit I bought had the corner ground down during an accident .... I've buffed the worst of it out and you can barely tell that it had damage.

I'm going to convert the headlight to a projector type unit.

Always ask the seller to telephone you to arrange collection by you in person, then grill them about the condition.
They'll be a lot less likely to misrepresent an item if they think your'e coming to their house to collect it yourself, while visitng a relative in their area or attending a conference nearby next week.

Make sure that you drop into conversation how unhappy you had to get when an item you bought a while back wasn't described honestly, and had to get your money back. Apologise for having to be so careful, but once bitten......

Obviously you change your mind later and ask them to ship it after all.


Or ask one of the forum members who lives nearby to pop round and have a look for you, we seem to have most of the country covered between us.

You're not wrong of course. I did actually ask the guy, albeit by email, about the condition. I'm putting it down to experience ..... a not so good one. I have to re adjust my expectations I have to remember that I did actually buy the Firestorm as a sacrificial bike to run throught he winter. I just hate things not being quite right. Never mind ... onwards and upwards. Next is the suspension .... it's gonna need the lowers repainting or me trying to find some decent ones on the dreaded ebay thing.

I have a pair of lowers, I think, so would be able to sell those for you to recondition then swap your own stanchions into.
That would have to be a sell, though, sorry to be mercenary but billy payment comes a-knockin' .

If you're interested let me know and I can dig them out, and send pics; and an HONEST descripiton

(But I wouldn't have kept them if I wasn't prepared to use them again myself, obviously)

With any fork rebuild I would recommend new upper and lower sliders, BTW.
And while you're there you're most of the way to replacing the head bearings if that's needed about now.
Might as well make a weekend of it....

(oh, and wheel bearings, brake pads, bleed and and and and ....................) Best book a week off to be sure.

Why? One careful owner and only 3 minor scorch marks, also the porcupine poo will clean straight off with a bit of elbow grease
