very wet trackday lol :/

Post by benny hedges »

well, just got back from oulton park, booked in the fast group.... track was froze this morning so couldnt get on til 10... they salted it, which was a pain as it meant it didnt freeze, but didnt dry out either.
i did the compulsory 3 sighting laps then went back to the garage with a few others as it was absolutely treacherous - lad in front of me on a 600 gixxer binned on the first bend on the 2nd lap, his day over, cans flattened, clutch mc smashed.
lad on a cbr400 came off just after i turned in... then another, then another, then another.
even guys on wets were losing it.

so i thought crouton it, im not smashing the storm up again so i came home and got the zx750r out... (after running out of petrol outside my house & my 2 petrol cans in the garage trackside :/ )

it's wearing storm ultras, supposed all-weather tyres...
hhhmmmm :problem: not frozen soaked racetrack type weather lol!
the front end held ok but coming out of every bend i was wheelspinning & stepping out.

did one full session on it then 2 laps of the next 2 sessions...
i'd much prefer it to have been dry lol!
ran it off into the grass on one bend due to braking too late, then a cb500 cut me up on knickerbrook chicane and i had to go through the runoff, then on the next lap it stepped out at druids, got it back but too late to brake & ended up a foot deep in the gravel but managed to stay on it lol! :biggrin

by the end of the day there was only 10-12 in each group, due to offs and others retiring out of common sense!
that's it til springtime for me now, no more trackdays til it warms up again!

saw another 2 vtr's today, one race prepared black one and a yellow one spectating... oh and a silver one on the track on saturday with a lady rider :cool2
i'll add some pics after :Beer Popcorn:

was no bravery involved m8... when you see bikes sliding off all over the place, butt ends stepping out on every bend, riders stood at the side of the track etc, sort of makes you slow down a bit lol....
thing is, in the fast group you cant ride slow for safety sake, only option is to bring it in.
even in novice & inters there were still loads down so wasn't worth changing groups.
at least in the advanced group the riders know the lines so you know where they are going.
just didn't fancy binning the storm seeing as all it needs is a respray.
it'll be kept strictly as a roadbike and the kwak will be used for trackdays once the tax has run out.

Might just join you in the spring; I got a track day voucher for my birthday but wanted to wait until I had the rebuilt motor in.

We could probably do a run-what-ya-brung drag day, though, weather and funds permitting, if your'e interested?

Let's see if we can entice anyone else along as well, or even to watch.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

will definately be attending bulldog this year - will be a cracking do i reckon.
will try to fetch an assortment of different bikes from my local site as well - loads have expressed an interest in going this year  but you know how the numbers dwindle as it gets nearer lol.... ken dodd's dad's dog's died etc...

Kennomeat is dead?
He was only about seven, I remember him as a pup, always getting into scrapes.

It's a sad day, right enough.

Do you know when the funeral is?
Not sure I can make it, but wouldn't mind chipping in to a wreath, or the memorial plaque fund.

that was after a mad back end slide coming out of druids... got it upright but it was clear i wasn't going to make the bend lol so just went straight on over the grass and into the gravel - a marshall helped me back it out & carried on for a few more laps :biggrin
didnt fancy turning a £100 bike into a £1000 rebuild project though!
plain green race fairings going on it shortly (and a set of wets lol)
