Greeting

Post by SRMAJM »

Hi All. Have had a Yellow 2002 VTR for the last 12 months and its bril - much more like the torquey bikes I had as a kid. Ive been a member for a little while and have been watching the posts from the sidelines - plenty of knowledge and experience out there - and thought it was time to introduce myself.

Just picked up on the fact that motor users now have to SORN their vehicle if they do not have insurance even if the vehicle is still taxed  - got caught out when I bought the Storm as the previous owner had it on a SORN and I did not realise that as the new owner I had to SORN it myself!!! Is this change in the law common knowledge and just something I missed or do yoy think it worth a general post?

welcome!

regarding the sorn question - you would think that as the new owner, when you receive the new v5 you would receive a sorn notification, or at least an advice slip telling you of it's status & your obligations as the new keeper.

its the usual thing, sorn is probably administered in a different department than the one that issues v5s bla blah blah

but you can bet if you didnt sorn it for a year they would want to back tax you for the year.
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Hi from a fellow newcomer .....
I was not aware of the insurance SORN situation, but not surprised... the " powers that be" will never stop thinking of new ways of screwing money from easy targets... while real crooks will continue to drive without insurance etc..anyway
Well that's my moaning over for today.... enjoy your storm
