Afternoon .... I will, very shortly, be the owner of a 33k '99 Firestorm in blue (shortly to go black I suspect :D )

The 'Storm joins my happy little stable, alongside the Thunderace, GSXR 7/11, ZX9R B models (a few of 'em - I like the 9R :D), ZXR750 'fighter and several others (I get bored *really* easily).

I had thought about modifying the little twin, but TBH it'll probably end up as my winter bike so I'll stick to the things that'll make it more reliable - the camchain tensioners were replaced 15k miles ago - I'm tempted to pop a couple of the APE manual ones on to give peace of mind, and I'll check the regulator/rectifier - if it's the OE one, that'll be replaced with a CBR125 item I have kicking around :D .. other than that, anything to look for ?

Hello mate, welcome to the clubhouse. Have a look at rider on a storm's manual cct's. Good price and a fine product. Just fitted them to mine with no probs if you follow the guidance included. Hope you enjoy your Storm as much as I do mine. :thumbup:

Welcome to the forum. Just one thing though. Using the storm as a winter bike? Never gonna happen bud. Be prepared to sit with your handful of keys and as you wonder what bike to ride on you'll end up with the storm. Its such an easy bike to ride and such a hoot!

I'll check those CCT's out - I take it there's a sticky somewhere for 'em?

We'll see about the winter bike thing - I rode a mate's 'Storm a few years ago, and remember being unmoved by it - capable but ultimately functional rather than pant wetting ... still, we'll see if age has altered my outlook as much as it has my waistline .. :D

with the little quarks the storm has i wouldn't ride it in winter i would find myself eating tarmac :lol:

hi and welcome, i like the 9r's too had a couple of them both on 95 plates the B1's, lovely bikes and bloody quick if running spot on.
98% of all Harleys ever sold are still on the road. The other 2% made it home Image

They're great for winter riding, soft enough for slippy and frosty mornings if you take it easy.
I ran mine in during the snow and ice after fitting high comp pistons, so it's not too bad.
And no sudden power band to worry about halfway round a roundabout.


Finish will cope with being out in salty conditions beter than most, as well.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I rode mine all winter. Partly because I love the bike but mostly because its the only one I have. I'm not posh enough to own more than 1 bike. :sad2

Well .. it's coming on Tuesday, so I'll see how I feel - picked a Thunderace up yesterday, bit tattier than I thought, but nice engine :)
It's nice to have a choice of ride, they all do different things well ... I'm looking forward to seeing how the 'Storm performs..

Well ... managed my first run out on the VTR today ....

I have a Thunderace, a GSXR 7/11 and several 9R's etc. ... I really didn't expect, and TBH I didn't want to enjoy the Firestorm .. I rode one a few years ago and didn't really like it, so I thought it'd be more of the same - I only got it because it was a swap on a ZXR M1 project I had...
Anyway, my first ride out .... only a few miles - collected my youngest daughter from school ..

I can't see me wanting to do huge distances on it .. it's a lot smaller than the bikes I'm used to, but as a point-to-point, A or B road bike, I doubt I could find one as much fun as the VTR! I got off with a huge grin, as did my daughter - she loved the noise it makes on open cans .. and I really like the way it makes it's power - the only downside is that I got off feeling that if I liked that so much, a TL or SP would be even better ... but for now, I can see the little Honda being a popular bike for my trips out :D

I like it :D .... lots .... :D

Good recovery there Bob :thumbup: I thought you were a bit brave coming onto a FireStorm forum saying that you thought it would be a boring bike!!, but as you have seen the error of your ways I will let you off. :D

welcome, and time to start modding to try and make it the perfect bike.....will it be the engine or the brakes or the suspension or the looks...............ah wombles just go ride it and grin
