Just thought id post up a quick hello here

Had a 2001 plate red storm for a year now with carbon can co. cans on with no baffles, braided hoses and hugger...she sounds lovely And if they can hear ya they look for ya thats what i say

Just treated her to a new set of pads back and front, new back wheel bearings, and oil and filter....why not its summer ish No dreaded cct probs yet but will be changing front in due course as i ve no history of it ever being done

Great forum with plenty of info on the old storm to have a trawl through too

Yeah i'm just down the road in Newton near Hyde, there'll be plenty of rides out in the summer months, usaully all kicks off again about Easter time. One of the meeting points local to us is outside Road & Racing Motocyles in Hyde

I know Hyde town centre well drive through it all the time You a frequenter of the Bike and Hound ? Is it still open? Not been in there for a bit (Thursdays topless night aint it??? Or it used to be )

My first question then....... The yammy R1/R6 Regulator is that the one to go for cost and reliability wise....had no problems with it upto now but may change if cheap enough for piece o mind

And rear shock spacers i realise it will shift weight tho the front...are stock front springs and bog standard fork oil ok used with the rear spacer? Obviously a better set of fork springs and oil would nt go a miss but cant afford the bits just yet

As far as i'm aware no R1 or R6 RR has failed, unlike Honda ones.

And the front forks will bottom out under braking, even without the spacer.
It's not really noticeably worse with a spacer in, though.

The main thing is the rectifier has cooling fins on it. The earlier 16ltr fuel tank models didn't.

Had a read of the regulator posts will be doing that mod soon..... may aswell. I use the thumper for work and although folks have said they are thirsty beasts it costs me a tenner to get their and back all week so no quibbles their its less than a bus pass

Just got myself a rear spacer too so will get it fitted soon and see how she feels This is the first big twin i ve had and must say find it far better than the four pots! And i ve had a few. What life span on a chain for the vtr driven relatively sensibly i would imagine they chomp chains a bit with the torque?

Chain wear is ok, although they have lots of torque it comes in relatively gently.
But a scotoiler makes a huge difference, in excess of 20,000 miles isn't at all unusual.

Obviously replace as a set, and for £6 you can try a smaller front as well.
15tooth = excitement, 14 tooth = hello sky.

Yes teh spacer makes a big improvement getting the bike to turn in quicker, but dont add too much rear ride height till you have fixed the forks [stiffer springs and thicker oil], or it can get a bit slappy.

So what are we talking max ride height increase with stock fork setup ? Been thinking bout a different front sprocket to be honest and keep stock rear sprocket.... Not really fussed bout top end as I ll never do it! Ha ha

progressive springs up front and heavier oil plus a spacer in the back & braided hoses - makes a different bike imo.
stick a 15t on the front - you will like it

absolute doddle..... you will have to take the forks off though to do it properly.
if you're a lazy batserd you could just undo the fork tops one at a time, pull out the old spring & drop in the new.
even that would be a big improvement over standard.
to do the oil change ideally you need to get the fork upside down to drain it off properly.
then while theyre off have a look at the condition of the chroming & seals.
