The insurance companys in this country are getting away with murder. The crap you have to go throught to get a basic tpft policy with break down cover . ffs.
You spend ages giving them your details even ones that have nothingto do with insuring a bloody bike then they tell you after all that time the stupid high cost there going to charge you and youhave to send proof of all that you have told them ffs . Makes you sick, there all the bloody same . this industri wants a bloody big shake up if you ask me.
Rant Over Now
I go for the cheapest TPO I can find now because it’s not worth the paper it’s printed on these days—for a vehicle over 10 years old and valued at what? £1500 - 2500 tops. I look at it as a tax that has to be paid and who likes paying more than they need?
Regarding breakdown, I gave up on that when I couldn’t get ‘recovery to home’ and not just a trip down the road to the nearest ‘stealer’, because my bike was over 10 years old. That did pay off however because the day after, my bank sent me details of how they were going to upgrade my ‘free’ breakdown cover to fully comp and full Euro cover for nothing, and it covers motorbikes (of any age).
the one time ive had to use them they were spot on.
cost me £39 for the top policy, euro cover, car hire, roadside assistance, recover to home, onward journey etc etc... compare that with £88 off rac for the same cover - and the £375 it cost to get my bike home when i binned it!
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
i understand the cost issue of insurance, but i will say this after being involved in an accident last year where i recieved life threatening and changing injuries whilst only having thft cover was one of the biggest mistakes of my life, i will not ride another motorbike in my lifetime unless i'm fully comp.
imagine you ride a bike say it's worth 1500 to 2000 pounds and one day whilst riding you loose control, maybe because of something totally beyond your control, you smash your bike and yourself up, you start with the excess 1,2,3,4,500 quid depending on your policy well wave goodbye to that, storage and recovery of your bike will be at least £200 good luck with getting the insurance company to pay that, then theres the cost of your biking kit anything from £250 to over a £1000 you would be lucky to get the £250 back, now heres a biggy loss of earnings, i've been out of work for 10 months now living off of £65 per week benefits which will be taken off of any money you might get from the insurance company, i shoul highlight the word might. and lastly your bike itself i might be wrong but doesn't tpft only cover you for damge you might cause to other peoples property not your own, which means you would get shafted there aswell.
now i might be wrong on some of these points and please feel free to correct me, because it's been 10 months since my accident and i'm now where near the insurance companies sorting it out, when they do i will post a thread giving you all a clearer picture.
but as i said before it's fully comp or no bike for me.
goodluck to anyone dealing with insurance firms, in my 20+ yrs of motoring i found them to be nothing more than scum..............
The voice of experience that must take precedence over my humble ramblings.
I suppose my situation should be clarified thus my choice of TPO will then makes some sense. I don’t earn enough to pay tax and I’m a full time undergrad in my third year, when I go back in October (not bad for a 45 year old). My Storm is 12 years old and anything other than a puncture and the insurance would write it off anyway and £65 pound a week would be luxury!
Why do I have a vision of the 3 Yorkshire men sketch in my mind when I wrote that?
Horses for courses I suppose, if you’ve got something to lose insure it, and listen to Marty and definitely not me—seriously!
