Running temperature. Advise please

Post by Phlipsy »

As a new stormer, I'm a little worried that my mint 1998 barely moves the temp needle, however hard I push the poor old girl. Are we thinking gauge, sender unit or is this the norm :confused

I'd be tempted to investigate the wiring first, specifically the connetion on the sender... but you never can tell with these old money pits. Take the wire off the sender and earth it... if the needle moves up towards maximum, you can safely bet its a faulty sender.....

first thing to check is if theres any coolant in it lol!
in this weather, unless you are riding it hard you will only see low temps.
could just be a connection corroded on the back of the instrument pod, the little m4 ring conectors.
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Mine has never really moved far off the left except when it's really hot outside and I've never known her to get hot enough for the fan to cut in. My TDM, on the other hand, the fan cuts in a fair bit in stationary traffic.

So, I'd just say it was perfectly normal, unless there are other symptoms I wouldn't look for a problem that probably isn't there.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

Hi Phlipsy

I'm with Stratman on this, what you describe is normal to me, if i sit in traffic for a while it goes up to half way and the fan cuts in, been like that for 6 years no problem
