Jack up kit ?

Right, many moons ago i raised the back end by fitting washers to the top of the shock, this was a trial you understand to see if i liked the idea, i loved the change in handling but i was left with a problem.
The problem is the chain running across the exhaust link pipe, not ideal in any modification, needless to say i couldn't run this configuration for very long.

I would love to raise the back end again but the only way i found of doing this was to fit a 2-1 exhaust system, i would prefer to keep the twin cans to avoid fiddling with the fuelling.
The only solution i can see is the exhaust system will need to be modified to avoid the chain.

Has anyone come across this problem before, i would love to hear any solutions that i could incorperate ?

I have a 6mm spacer and there is no issue with the chain, this is the max you can put in as the shock then sits very close to the pipe, now on the other side where the chain goes close I undid the pipe and moved it sideways a bit so the flat part of the pipe which is there to alleviate such probs sits directly underneath, I only mention this as when I put my beowulfs on I noticed that the indent for the chain was nowhere near where the chain was passing.....does that make sense...

Some after market link pipes give more chain clearance than others, so that might be another option to explore, especially if you have after market ones fitted

There's possibly a better solution.
The height of the link pipes is fixed by the exhaust system under the engine, but that is only at the height it is because the rear downpipe slides into the collector below it.
That amount of slide is not fixed, you just push the collector up onto the rear downpipe.

Try removing the link pipes and cans, loosen the front exhaust clamp nuts, then undo the rear downpipe clamp where it joins the collector, and pull the collector down a bit, maybe 10mm.

Then, when you reassemble the link pipes and cans, the link pipes will sit lower.
This only works if the link pipes aren't bolted to the footrests.
Some are, some aren't.

This will allow the system to sit lower at the back, and the chain will clear the link pipes.

I was looking at the rear linky & thinking i could drop it a little bit, adding a slightly bigger dent in the link pipe was my next question, i thought that would affect performance due to the exhaust bore size changing ?
I think i might try the dropping of the rear link pipe to collector box first, then maybe add a dent if i can make it work. Dont really fancy dropping throught the forks, i did that on a previous bike & i couldn't get on with the new front end feel.

Front or back, both have same effect! As long as you take into account the linkage ratio for the rear suspension.

Have you gt uprated fork springs fitted, as the extra soft standard springs will drop even faster if you jack the back end up, so you would be wel advised to fx tem first before experimenting with geometry. They will bottom out, and also cause big changes in the steering anges and can cause tankslapper.
