6mm spacer.

Post by lumpyv »

evening all. a chap on e bay is flogging 6mm rear shock spacers. if i were to fit one what difference could i expect it to make?? presumably the seat height goes up 6mm?

Welcome to the forum Lumpyv.

Yes it will & it will quicken up the steering as it alters the weight over the front wheel, turns in quicker I believe.

Don't buy one, make one! Can be done with large washers & then you can vary how much you put in. i.e. 3x2mm washers =6mm.

Search in the workshop section for ''Shock Spacer'' to get more info & even a template with measurements.

Or for ease of fitting you can cut a slot instead of a hole.

hoots mon ! whats a mancave ?

i spend all day at work getting my hands dirty ( a little bit ) so i suppose i could make something but a fiver??!! thats not a lot , with 2 x exwives and 4 kids i think it costs me about a tenner everytime i fart. but any way i was wondering more about the effect such an inexpensive mod would have on the handling and comfort etc

The 6mm spacer raises the rear by approx 25mm which in turn steepens the steering angle thus making it turn a bit quicker.

Do the spacer and drop the yokes by 10mm and it turns much (noticably) faster.

.

When you lift the back it steepens the steering angle and makes the steering turn in faster. But if you are still running standard fork springs don't go wild with the spacers as it can get a bit tank slappy when the weight transfer moves the forks through their stroke and steepens the steering angle more.

And as the others said......just get some big 1mm thick washers with a 10mm inner bore and slot them with a hacksaw.

Then you can add them 1 at a time to tune the steering and seat height.

Tony, those were all crap man caves! Where was the oxyacetylene and the compressor and the milling machine?

It's ok to have a seat and a fridge and some sounds, but they should be 2nd to the tools

+1 on the requirements for the cave, with the addition of a good lock to keep kids out and beer

If you put the full 6mm the shock linkage gets very very close to the exhaust, which will I assume dry it out due to the heat, so keep an eye on lubrication, the handling is transformed with just the spacer, it is sharp enough now without dropping the forks.
